Can I use a spare computer PSU to power my external drives?
I have a computer PSU that I've bought for powering 12v things like lights or anything else I can find. Would it be safe to use this to power my Seagate 2TB External hard drives? I'm pretty sure they run off 12V, and the power from a computer PSU is usually pretty clean isn't it?
Obviously the reason for doing this would be to get rid of the huge power bricks plugged into power boards taking up more than one space.

Normally external PSU's for external drives as are for laptops connect by a normal plug to the Power bricks as you describe them. they can sit anywhere and would look a lot better than having a computer PSU laying around.
If you 2GB drive is a 3.5" form factor which it almost certainly is then it requires +5V and +12 V to run it The +12V is required for the spindle motor
