They are enabled to receive the power of His resurrection life by the Spirit, to enable them to live anew acceptably to God.

Thus they are born anew by the Spirit of God.

How can they be joined to Christ? Since they are sinners and sinful it cannot be any work of their own since that will be tainted, infected,and infested with their sin. The only means compatible is by faith which enables them to receive God's work without their own works. It also operates as consent and a desire to be changed. None can be changed against their will. Any forced remain of the same heart though superficially there may be compliance.

That is called Redemption. Specifically, when you forgive someone , you suffer the damage done to you without demanding pay back. In the same way, God in Christ suffers the pain of our rejection/sins while forgiving us. Forgiveness costs something on the part of the forgiver, it is not easy or cheap

God can forgive us our personal sins if we repent for them, but that was not the problem God couldn't forgive the disobedience we are all born under because of the sin of Adam. This is why from the time of Adam to Moses when the Law was made visible to the time of Moses to Jesus no one could enter Heaven the very disobedience which is part of human nature separated mankind from God even in death. The disobedience which we are born under is inherited through our sinful flesh, it's the cause of our inclination to commit personal sin the flesh belongs to Satan. You could say that when Adam disobeyed God when he was tempted, that temptation turned internally to disobey God. Before the fall of Adam he had no internal temptations because he was holy and his flesh was holy.

So the Son had to be incarnated in the likeness of sinful flesh even though He was born under obedience and was without sin. In order for Jesus to be counted amongst us sinners He had to be baptized in a bath of redemption, that is why Jesus was baptized by St. John the Baptist. And if you think about it after Jesus was baptized He was tempted by Satan in the desert which is evidence that even though Jesus was without sin He was counted amongst the sinners. This was important because Jesus didn't need to enter into Heaven after He died but rather Sheol the abode of the dead where the righteous dead that lived before Him waited in Abraham's Bosom (Limbo for the Fathers). In fulfillment of the prophesy Jesus as the Messiah would preach His Gospel to them and deliver them.

When Jesus died upon the cross He offered Himself up as a sin offering for the atonement for the sin of Adam. We are forgiven because we are sinners what died with Jesus' flesh was the sin of Adam. Through His Resurrection we are given the promise of eternal life, Heaven had became open to mankind because Jesus defeated death. So even though our flesh is sinful we have been given the spirit of eternal life so even in death we are not separated from God.

Jesus' sacrifice was made for all past, present, and future generations and this was a feat that only God could preform because no man could carry the sin of Adam (sins of the world).

Without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sins. God is holy and just and demands that sin be punished. God can do anything He wants. He is God. He makes the rules.
