What should I do i need some weigh-loss advice?

ok, so i'm trying to loose weight.

my mum said that when i exercise, i need to do it to get fit, not to loose weight, because concentrating on the fitness means the weight will fall off on its own. But Im not sure if i could kid myself i was doing it for my fitness when my goal is weight.

Khloe Kardashian says you should never weigh yourself because numbers will send you to an early grave. My mum agrees and said that i shouldn't weigh myself, i should just go by how my clothes fit.

So can i get some opinions and advice please :)
