Do you think Lance Armstrong deserves any sympathy, why or why not?

In the Oprah Winfrey interview he finally confessed that he did in fact take performance-enhancing drugs in each of the seven Tour De France wins. if you saw the interview, do you feel sorry for him? Do you think he deserves a second chance? And if you were a Lance Armstrong Fan before, have you lost complete respect for him?

No. He lied so many years, he claimed that everything was possible if you just worked hard enough.. he was an example for thousands of cancer patients, they believed they could do what he did.. if they just had enough will power.. everything he said, everything he built around him, was a lie..

I think that's awful, other cyclists, who are true to themselves, who don't use drugs.. don't have a chance because of people like Lance Armstrong who just want to win.. and they'd do anything to gain that number one spot.. Sympathy? No, he had to confess.. he chose to do it with Oprah to get some money out of it.. He even sued people who claimed he was using drugs.. people believed him, defended him.. and now, he finally confesses.. after all those years.. sorry, but I don't have sympathy for him.. if he was truly sorry, he wouldn't have confessed this to Oprah.. He would have taken other measures.. that count more for the cycling world.. Oprah, was just a big publicity stunt.. in my eyes.

Source(s): never been such a cycling fan though..

Lance Armstrong is no different than most athletics,I'm sure the majority are taking some kind of drug. This drug didn't put him on "cruise control",he still had to endure the work needed to win. From what I've read millions of dollars he raised for cancer. Was never a fan of his but people have done so much worse.Maybe he should name names of all those creditable doctors that gave out these drugs.

I answered this on the real question as well. Lance Armstrong is a liar and a cheater. But don't tell me you've never lied or cheated. Don't tell me you've never lied about something that could potentially change your life. We all have and we all will continue to do so. Just because Lance Armstrong is famous, that doesn't make him any less human. EVERYBODY lies about things they shouldn't and everybody makes horrible mistakes in their life. He admitted to that and he admitted to being imperfect. Sometimes, even we don't admit to our mistakes, yet we are still forgiven because we're not famous and being scrutinized for every move we make! And yes, his lies made him rich, but my lies made me pass that old chemistry test and my lies made my parents less mad at me... I don't see how he can't get sympathy just because he's famous....

Not only that, but he was an inspiration. He helped people out. He kept people moving, even when times were tough. Sure, you may say he was a faulty inspiration because he took drugs, but so did Steve Jobs and I don't see anybody complaining about him. In fact, Steve Jobs said drugs were the reason he came up with his genius ideas. Why is HE still considered an inspiration if Lance Armstrong can't be? Is it because his wasn't "cheating"? It was illegal, though... So you can't say he's inspiring kids to cheat and take drugs because you'd have to say that about a bunch of other people as well.

My brother loved Lance Armstrong and had an entire wall dedicated to the guy. He loved him so much that he biked as often as he could. He got hit by a car but got up because he knew Lance Armstrong would. He loved him so much that he ended up being able to meet him. My father bought 250 Livestrong bracelets per month. Do you think he stopped? He didn't. He still buys them.

Just because he may have cheated and had assistance, that doesn't mean he was never a good guy.

I think he should be allowed to race in little mini events because what else would he do without it? That's his career. It's like being fired. You can't say "oh, you're fired from working here and you can't work anywhere else." I do believe he should be banned from all major tours though.

The man brought respect to the sport of cycling in America.

The entire industry was created and many are profiting from his wins.

Now all his wins have been vacated. This means that they never happened.

The man is currently worth an estimated $100 million US.

You need not fell sorry for him.

They should legalize performance enhancing drinks for these events.

It is a very grueling event and requires great endurance and energy.

The man is still a hero in my eyes for doing what he did for the sport of cycling.

    He has balls.

He's still the first man to come first in the Tour de France having got off his death bed from cancer of his testicle, brain ,lungs and abdomen. That really is a remarkable achievement with or without drugs and was an inspiration to many fighting cancer at that time,my ex wife included. That inspiration can't be taken away from those people who recovered.

Well...I haven't seen the interview all the way through, but I think he was doing it for publicity. He ruined some lives along the way and from what I hear, didn't really apologize for that.

Yes, I am a forgiving person so I think we should forgive and move on with life. I do not know the whole story but even though he cheated the damage is done, we must forgive.

Nope, knew long ago he's used performance enhancing drugs. Kept denying, he's had his chance to come out clean.

No, I don't think he deserves any mercy or sympathy. Not necessarily because he took PEDs & lied about it, but mainly because of the peoples' lives he destroyed--or tried to--who knew he was taking PEDs & wanted him to come clean. He went to any lengths he could to smear other peoples' names & reputations so that his could remain falsely intact.
