Do you think we can stop Egyptian Taxi drivers to stop smoking while driving?
TAXI'S HURGHADA must be restricted to banning them from using their mobiles when driving and ban them from smoking while carrying passengers. One taxi I boarded was going all over the road as he argued on his phone and at the same time holding a cigerette in his other hand. Others answered their ringing phone constantly. Some taxis were so smokey that they triggered off coughs from those sitting in the car. We held on for life on route to the airport as our driver nearly collided with other cars and even the police stopped him but he only resumed on his phone a few yards higher up on the road. Maybe we should refuse to get in when we see them stop in front of us holding their mobile and cigerette. If we all did not board taxis when driver is seen on phone and smoking, maybe they would get the message

We are talented Egyptians we can do 2 things in one time we can talk on the phone and in the same time we can hold cigarette in the other hand thanks god that i am not smoking and i really wished if we can do real 2 things in one time but useful things anyway let's get to your question i think till now we don't have law to ban them from smoking but calling on the phone while driving can make them pay fine but in the current circumstances security is kinda weak to punish people but you can ask them to not to smoke and it will be his right also to decide or he can ask you that you can take another cab if he is kinda nervous .not all smokers taxi drives can be seen smoking before entering their taxi but while driving you can notice that .

I don't mind them speaking on the Phone, smoking Cigarettes, or even being drugged with Tramadol (Which is the case with almost all Taxi Drivers). But when they f**king stop for everyone that needs a Taxi, despite the fact that it is already occupied by me, to the point where it just as functional as a Bus except we're ontop of each other, then I have a problem. But, I guess you've never experienced that since you probably never tried Taxis here in Alexandria. :(

Behavior wise it is not posskible since most of them believe that he is doing u favor and he is free in his car the only way to stop it is that the taxi is owned by a strict company

I agree with you! They should make a law for taxi and bus drivers. Perhaps you should complain to the tourist police, I'm sure they'll take your complaint into consideration if you're a foreignor.

I used to ask them to stop when my child was a baby. They are usually compliant - make up an excuse, tell them you have asthma or something - if you give them a reason you will find you get better results.

He has his RIGHTS, and so do you! Get another cab after asking if he smokes. If you ban all drivers from smoking or doing what is their " freedom " are you any better then your government ?

i dont usuaslly take cabs but i will tell u a similar incident
i was with my friends in a coffee shop and the young man next to me was lighting one cig from the other..i was going to suffocate cuz he was blowing in my direction.
i politely asked him to puff it the other side
he was very agreeable and he stopped smoking ...
on leaving i thanked him for his polite consideration.
moral of the story...if ask people anything politely they are more than happy to help u
Egyptians are very helpful and kind......just ask politely
