2 foods that oddly give me a lot of energy later in the day are bananas and almonds.
Eat 1 banana and a handful of almonds (WITH PLENTY OF WATER) 2 hours before the game, and you'll be feeling good to go.
You should also have a breakfast low in sugar, and high in protein/carbs.
Eat an egg sandwich and a handful of berries.
This will give you the energy and vitamins you need for the game later.
The reason sugary foods like orange juice and sweet cereal are bad is because they make your blood sugar drop later in the day causing you to feel week and shaky.
DON'T EAT ANYTHING ELSE WITHIN 2 HOURS OF PLAYING. It can cause cramps which can ruin your playing ability.
Edit:
Apparently the monounsaturated fats in almonds increase your testosterone levels, which is probably why they make me feel more energized.
The Potassium in bananas allows for proper muscle function.

Yes, it's almost certainly because you didn't eat anything. Obviously not playing may have had an impact on your level of fitness, but this certainly sounds like a lack of energy. Your body wants to burn energy stored in the muscles during high intensity exercise. Try having some pasta the night before and again the night after the game, or if it's an evening game try having it for lunch, Cheers, Steve

Healthy foods... And also bread or carbs it gives you energy. Also tons of water (but not too much you don't to have to pee in the middle of the game like 50 times lol)
