If I join the active duty Air Force, what are my chances of getting a base on my "dream sheet"?
I've never heard of someone actually getting a duty station on a base that they wanted. Ever. I guess I'm just asking if it's possible.
I would really like to be stationed at Joint Base Charleston (SC), and I'm even prepared to take a job as a loadmaster or something along those lines because they're known as an "airlift" base. What are my chances?

I would say not real good.
When I joned the military, that was a long time ago, I listed Korea, Germany, and FT Hood, Tx on my dream sheet. The military decide it would benefit them to keep me at Ft. Knox, Ky as an instructor.
Now mind you this was during the first Gulf War. So I myself never saw any combat, hell I never even mad it out of North America.

It's like playing lotto, it's a 50/50 chance that you'll get what you're requesting, But most importantly it's based on the need of the military! Wherever the military is short on personelle of your job is most likely where you'll end up being, hope that answers your question.

Getting a duty station you requested for on the "Keep on Dreaming Sheet" is like playing lotto; some times you win, most times you lost.

there are just to many factors involved
1. can your afsc even be assigned to the base
2, if your afsc is at the base, can a 3 level in your AFSC, even be assigned to the base
3. does the base need 3 levels in your afsc
how it works :
the air force makes a list of bases that will need 3 levels in your afsc at the time you graduate tech school
they will then look at your dream sheet
if a base on the air force list, is on your dream sheet, then they will assign you there
if a base on your dream sheet, is not on the air force list, then you get assigned based on the air force list
your always gonna go, where the air force needs you -- some times thats also where you wanna go
