2 homeless adult cats?

Question:

When I move I will need to take with me two homeless cats in two baskets, I don't want them to be scared at all. Is there any sort of medicine that will calm them down before I get them in their basket? If there is "kalms" pills for humans there must be something of the sort for cats...

Story:

Before my mother went on holidays she told me clearly not to let any cat in the house. I'm gonna stay here till I find a decent shared house to live. Won't take long, I live in London.

I sometimes see 2 cats around here that got no collars. Sometimes I decide to look out the window in the middle of the night as well to check if they are near by... They always are - and I see them shivering laying down in a curl because of the cold on any spot that is dry.

I decided to feed them, it brakes my heart that after eating they start cleaning themselves and feel really sleepy but can't never sleep because it's too bloody cold and also there are lots of foxes around here and they know they gotta be alert nearly all the time.

Yesterday I decided to leave the bathroom window open and call them in, since the bathroom is right next to the bedroom I can lock my door and no one in the house noticed anything (my brothers). One cat got in but the other was just too suspicious of everything - apart from when I'm feeding him.

The one that got in through the window explored the bathroom then the bedroom then she let me grab her and put it in a comfy spot on the bed and she then slept within 5 minutes.

I left the bathroom window constantly open for her to feel free to go out. Since I done that she only goes out for 5 minutes - probably to do her lil business - then come back and go to sleep.

She is sleeping a lot probably because she could never sleep properly outside.

I am now 100% sure she is homeless and so is the other one. I think they had owners before but they abandoned them.

I named her cuddles and I named the other one fussies.

My parents is gonna be out for a whole month if not 2 months. I'm gonna try my best to get 100% trust of both cats and when I move I will take them with me.

By the way I'm not taking them to any shelters because they kill cats when they have no space. They like to keep quiet about it.

Update:

Thank you ever so much for the advice people. I'm gonna look more into the plug thingy to give them the extra sense of safety and I will ring rspca for advice about the diseases the cats might have plus I need to check if they have been castrated. Since I'm on benefits, castrating them might be free.

I will do all of these after I get to know them better. The bathroom window will always be open and I will be trying to get more of their trust.

Update 2:

.

.

Everything is sorted, I have been so lucky :)

Booked an appointment for her to be checked and then spayed. It's free because I am on JSA. They will check if she has been microchiped and if she hasn't - which I am 100% sure of - they will spay her and check if she is free of viruses.

I am gonna have to pay for vaccination but it's cheap, the first one is £10, the second one is free, the third one is £15.

Because she doesn't like to go out - only goes out to use the toilet in my neighbours garden :P - she will have only the first vaccination. After then I will get a litter tray and teach her to use it so she doesn't have to go out.

Her appointment will be long before my parents come back from holidays and 2 days after I get my own place which I already found. I will start living at mine with her just after she's ready to be picked up from the vet.

Things can't get any better and I am so happy :)

There is a plug in cat calmer that you can plug in your wall it heats up and releases chemicals designed to calm the cats this must be used in one closed of room for a day with the cats in it either the night be for your cats are due to be put in the boxes or in the morning before going min 4-5 hours. This can be brought from your local pet shop they aren’t the cheapest but do an amazing job I own 7 cats and find when needed it’s the ideal solution to calm them. If you have issues or know boxing them will be an issue call the local pet rescue or rspca for assistance they are trained in boxing just explain their strays and they will do it for free. Once boxed cover the box with towls so its dark and they can’t see what’s going on if travel by car don’t have music on ect might freak them out. Good luck

That's cute. Well if they have your trust they'll trust you when you move them. Of course they're going ot be stressed, it's their first time in a car, but they might be more disoriented if they're drugged and find themselves in a brand new enviornment with no clue what happened. Keep them together, don't give them food that'll make them carsick, make them comfortable and move.

Also, since they've been outside, I'd really suggest you take them to the vet before letting them insinde. They could be carrying disease or have something wrong. Shots are great for them too to keep them vaccinated.

    Good luck

I rescued two feral cats a couple years ago and I used Bach Flower Remedy and Tellington Touch. BFR is an extract of certain flowers mixed in a solution that you add to water, in drops. You can also let them sniff it - for your situation I reccommend Aspen (for fear) and Walnut (for change in situation). T Touch is essentially massage, and involves using the back of your hand in small circular motions very lightly.

Felliway cat diffuser (as mentioned above) is also really good.

Just keep calm when talking to them, really quiet and kind voice etc.

Sounds like you're doing a great thing - it is so rewarding :) trust me.

I dont know about kitty calm pills, i know they have some for dogs so it may be worth looking into. I also think its great your taking them. Warms my heart with cuddles and fussies feelings. Just try not to loose them during the move, they may end up worst off. Good luck!
