I think I crave things when there is something in that food that I am lacking in my body.

At the moment believe it or not nothing since I just ate.

Everyone seems to be having fun with this question. I normally would but for some strange reason I am in a serious mood so I think I'll answer this seriously.

I'm diabetic so I am going to exclude sweets. In my opinion our body is far smarter than we are. It knows what minerals, vitamins etc it needs and which it is depleted. I think any non-decadent food you crave is your body's means of getting what it needs.

BTW, Ramen is just about pure sodium and there is something criminally wrong with anyone that doesn't crave Boston Cream Pie 24 / 7. OK, I'm guilty, I had to have a little fun.

I think ones body craves certain foods because you may be lacking in some nutrients.

I don't mean the sort of radom desire for something sweet or sour but a real craving for something which you feel you have no control over.

I was a vegetarian for over 30 odd years. Did eat poultry, cheese and fish sometimes during those years but no red meat at all. I didn't even eat poultry or fish often during those years.

No beef, pork, lamb and such.

2 years ago out of nowhere, I had the biggest craving for a steak with garlic, fried.

It was crazy because the sight of red meat turned my stomach.

After several days of this craving, I suggested we buy a little slice of steak , cook it and I would have a small bit just to see if I was going crazy.

Well, I ate the whole steak and even asked for half of my husbands portion!!

Guess my body was talking, I was missing some minerals or something.

Did some research on foods that are good for ones blood type.

Found out as a RH O Neg. person, I should be eating allot of lean red meat.

Go figure how I lasted for over 30 years without it.

I think giving into ones craving is not a bad thing as long as it isn't just one item such as a huge bag of chips or a lb. of candy a day.

Right now I am not hugry at all but if I could I would eat my mothers homemade potato salad anyday, anywhere and anytime.

Too bad that is not going to happen, I don't even want to think about it because my mouth will drool at the thought.

I think a lot--maybe not ALL, but definitely a lot--of cravings come from vitamin deficiencies.

I crave milk & cottage cheese & cheese a lot. I know I do not get enough calcium in my diet. So I started eating stuff made with milk (and drinking milk) a few months ago & now I do not crave it.

I've had cravings for baked potatoes in the past. Now I incorporated fresh potatoes in my diet & no longer crave them.

I use to have cravings for different things a lot, & some of the things were very unhealthy, like chocolate & ice cream. But now that I am on a 'fresh foods' lifestyle & taking a daily multivitamin, I rarely have cravings. And on the occasion I DO get cravings, it's never for anything unhealthy--I think that's b/c I got rid of all the unhealthy stuff in my diet a few years ago.

Only a guess here, some I think our body needs them, like vegetables or even water. Some I'll guess is to reset something like wanting more sugar or carbs. Some have what would be an abnormal craving like eating ice etc. Might be a mineral or vitamin lacking in our system. My usual craving is sugar. I just got my home made brownie with walnuts and am good for now. Chili in a while will satisfy my good food craving.

Because one is pregnant and Nature is desperate to saveguard the innocent fetus from all the unwholesome dietary choices one makes if left to decide unprompted.

I myself turned out the wrong sex (as my extended family of committed feminists observed on more than one occasion), so I have had to content myself with observing pregnancy in others (in the case of my ex, three times).

I am currently craving something pleasant but easily prepared for a supper time snack, but at the moment am undecided what. I think I shall chose a poached egg on wholemeal bread and a halfpint of Adnam's Suffolk beer.
