The higher end rods of either brand are good rods for whatever the purpose...

GMB's right, the high end rods can do it all. But if you had to go between the two I would go with Shimano. I had 1 Daiwa rod and I was testing the action and it broke.

If i had to pick one of those 2 i would prefer shimano but I honestly you can get a higher end pole with going to a cabelas or dicks sporting goods brand. They are not bad priced and there higher end ones are an exrtreamly good. a dicks brand of equal price of a shimano the dicks one will be better in sensitivity and durability in my opinion.
