07 GMC Vortec Overheating?
hen warmed up, 2 min after starting and idling the temp gauge goes up and shuts down the engine. Doesn't appear to actually overheat. What sensor, and where is it, that sends temp into to the ECU?

stick an OBD II scanner to see if there are trouble codes...
you may have 2 different sensors for that vehicle; one for the gauge and another for the ECU
2nd link is a pic of where one of them is & the other one is mentioned by the thermostat
hopefully the infamous intake gasket leaks are fixed in the later model years
