Destruction depends on you not on anything else. Religion is a religion. Its the way you look at it, that it will change you. If you want the religion can be a peace-loving thing. But, if you want the same religion can become a monster eating away everything. Depends on the perception.

Well, is it wrong to disagree? Religion has helped many people throughout history, and goes hand in hand with civilization. Historians even look for religion as a prerequisite for a society to be considered civilized. Now, that doesn't really mean much, but there exists countless examples of religion giving people undeniable hope, faith, and courage to go on in life. Of course, with everything in this world, humans can manage to corrupt everything, and religion is one of those things. It doesn't have a perfect report card. Not nearly. But, the reasons are hardly for the religion itself. More so, it is due to natural wickedness in humanity displayed through the scapegoat of religion. So to answer clearly, religion is destructive to the human spirit because it can be a tool used by corrupted individuals with power to make human life as a whole lesser than what it could be. I think though, that religion's pros outweigh its cons. It just seems that the negative things in life manage to be the most noticed.

If you consider the basis of the "human spirit" to be the freedom to question what is around us, then religion certainly is a destructive force to the human spirit.

Religion is destructive to the human spirit because it forces an external locus of control on all of its followers. If people were to be proactive beings who accepted that they were the creators of their own future, humanity would be in much better standing than it is now. People expect the world to land in their lap, and religion in someways has forced the belief that our efforts amount to nothing.

By exploiting fear for control, some religion causes many to live in fear. Many religions convince people that they must tell everyone what they believe and to enforce their beliefs or face the wrath of God. It tells everyone that they are guilty of wrongs and there will be judgement, as if it isn't a part of the human spirit to do what is right for only the understanding of why it is important to do so. If you think you are wrong and believe much of the word of others, could you be wrong? Could you face your own judgement after death, and face your own punishment? So you see where the confusion begins, it is eternal confusion, but could this be eternity? Religion promises a heaven, to tempt those to follow, and a hell to make those prone to fear to fear... yet a concept of heaven delays questions to a time after death, what questions would be asked then for what sense is not of the mind? I say fear not any word of man, you are nature like any tree, they will die and new ones will grow, but the awareness deep inside of what is "I" will continue on in new life, like the "I" of the tree will grow from new trees. Every atom in your body has been before death, and will be after, so what loss is there beyond that perceived by the state of being a human after death? The greatest deception of all is that of our own mind.

What people believe has the possibility to destruct or empower them. If an individual chooses to believe that living is about solely the relationship between them and Christ and no one else, that obviously has detrimental effects on them socially for example. But I believe having religion can be used to empower individuals in amazing ways that those who do not believe can't have. Such as believing that God is beyond any of our problems in life. Therefore empower individuals to fight all adversity.

Not only religion is destructive to the mind and body, it as well render people stupid as they have to live by faith. But it is not us flesh and blood that have to live by faith since we have no gods it is the stench living in our intestine that are ordered to live by faith in their stench gods. Humans are all living dead housing stenches like ,maggots, worms, and other filth like mold. Religion means Re's legion which are roaches, mold, flies, and such that hate and eat all flesh and blood entities after impregnating them with their replica. Even your mom is not your mom since she is a zombie that will sacrifice you if the vermin in her force her to do so. You have no protection. What is protected is the vermin living in your intestine and rectum. Tainbow is made of such stench gods. The gas of the rainbow are made of slimev of all colors.

It depends on the person and no blanket statement can be made that would be true for everyone.
