Which cricketers have you seen debuting in front of you who went on to create new records?
We may have seen several cricketers debuting in front of our eyes but its not always that some of them go on to create new records. In 1996, when Dravid and Ganguly came into the international scene, I was just a kid who was interested in playing rather than watching. Then I grew with age and grew more interested in watching cricket and giving expert opinions among my friends. That was about time when Graeme Smith was handed over the captaincy. My favorite threes (and all seniors) Kallis, Klusener and Pollock were sidelined. I still remember forecasting among my friends that this will harm South Africa cricket in long term and Smith will be sacked after a year or may be a couple. And today he is on the verge of captaining his 100th test. How quick time has flied. I feel like I’ve grown old now.
I know there are some users here who are old enough to have seen many greats debuting and retiring in front of them. So, any experiences?
I don’t want answers like I’ve met this and that player. I just want answers strictly regarding this question, else you may save your precious time.

Kohli. He was the quickest Indian to reach 3000 runs.
I didn't watch Dhoni debut, but he was still a youngster when I first watched him play.
As of Kohli, I too liked him when he came upfront for the first time. I really liked his technique, specially his flick towards mid wicket.
Soon runs began to flow from his bat, and I was already a big fan of his by the time he scored his first ODI century,.
When I began watching cricket, the fab four for India dominated and there was no youngster who could look good enough to be considered the successor of these. But then it was Kohli, who looked better.
In his debut, though he was a middle order batsman, he was sent to open. A young kid, making his debut, sent in to bat at a position he isn't familiar too.

I've seen the debut matches of guys like Dhoni,Kohli & Raina.I don't remember the one of sehwag or Yuvraj but I remember about sehwag's first century against New Zealand in coca-cola cup 2001(that time i was just a 7 year old) where he had helped team chase 265.
•Raina had made his debut in some triangular series as a 18-year old which feautured West Indies,India & Sri Lanka. But he really came into spotlight when he made 81* against England helping India beat England in the 2nd ODI when England toured India in 2006.After that innings many people started comparing raina to be a next tendulkar.
•Dhoni had made his debut in 2004 against Bangladesh where he had failed to make a mark, his 148 against Pakistan in 2006 really brought him to spotlight.
•I had seen Virat Kohli playing for RCB in the IPL 2008,& also in the U-19 world cup 2008.The guy had lot of talents,I said he is certainly the future of Indian cricket.Later he made his debut of the country & became the second fastest cricketer to score 4000 runs in ODIs.still it's just the beginning, his future can go anywhere.

Viral kohli and pujara are the most likely going to the torch bearers of Indian batting and can certainly shoot to legendary stature. Ash win will ought to perform as good overseas as he does in India to reach such pleasant heights. Cummins and starc will too be quickly deemed two of the greatest speedy bowlers of this iteration. Yet another guy we're missing is Pakistani pacer Junaid khan, he is been praised widely by means of each wasim akram and waqar younus. Quality swing bolwer.

Ive seen Sehwag making his test debut ,in SA in that test series where sachin tendulkar ball tampering controversy occured. I was a schoolboy that time and i was crazy about cricket! I used to switch on the TV as soon as i reached home to watch live cricket matches!
Here was the moment when Sehwag arrived on the crease i obviously didnt imagine he would make such a mark in cricket! He had came in to bat after fall of few wickets, and when he started batting he was so impressive with his strokeplay that i was totally enthralled with his "easy go lucky" four hitting ability! He made a huge impact straight away in his debut test and he was also pretty relaxed while fielding at silly point! So that was sehwag's debut ! Thx for making me go so far back into my memory lane :P
The other that i recall is Yuvraj Singh 's debut! I remember reading about him in a local punjabi newspaper before his debut in icc knockout trophy. He was seen as a replacment of Ajay jadeja (who was unavailable because of match fixing inquries) Jadeja used to be india's established finisher in the lower middle order in ODIs, so in a way Yuvraj was lucky because of jadeja's ban!
He made his debut in icc knockout trophy (now called champions trophy but that knockout format was much better) against australia , and boy did he show the signs of greatness right away!! by dominating the aussie bowlers , hitting them all over especially really strong cover drives! Then he stunned everyone with his fielding ! He won man of the match and during that little chat with the announcer while receiving the award one could tell he wasnt as fluent in english as he is now,lol !
Ofcourse many more cricketers made their debut while i was watching but those two were probably the truly memorable ones for me.

I predicted Chandimal to become an international player about 4 years ago..Infact we knew that since he was 17 and followed all his progress so far
Now he is Sri Lanka`s ODI & T20 Vice captain and in contention to become Sri Lanka`s youngest TEST captain..Sources say he might get selected for test captaincy ahead of Mathews but not confirmed yet

Mathews is another ..I ve seen him when i was 13 or 14 on TV and he was playing lemonade throphy - a 6 side under 19 tournament..He was Sri Lanka`s best in that by a mile !
I played a match against Tissara`s team at under 14 level but none of thought he would become a SLn player in 4 years time ..He played as an opener for St Joseph
ANother is Mahela..I watched my 1st ever cricket match at a stadium in 1997..Its the one we scored 952 agaist India..Mahela made his debut in that match and he scored 60 odd..

I was there at the ground when Virat Kohli scored his maiden international ton. I even jokingly said that he'll be India's batting mainstay one day. And we all know what he is today, don't we?
I can't remember any other actually.
Regards.
