The Hobbit- 27 animal deaths, why?

So, I was browsing online when I discovered this article: http://newsfeed.time.com/2012/11/19/27-animals-die...

And all I want to know is why? Also, do you think animals should be in films where they could potentially be injured? Have you seen The Hobbit, how was it? If you haven't, are you still going to see it? Have you even got any of your animals involved in the movies, how was the experience and would you do it again?

I saw the movie a couple months ago... I definitely won't be seeing the sequel now.

Yes I may go see it....eventually. The fault was not that of the company which produced the film. Despite the claims of a disgruntled animal trainer who had been dismissed earlier.

Some of the deaths were old age since they did not buy top condition animals in the first place. Other deaths were from illness (perhaps from being stressed from the move or from not being in the best condition to start with....But a few of the deaths occurred because the farm that kept the animals had sinkholes that had not been fenced off. Not a problem for the animals raised there, but a problem for those not experienced with the terrain and that particular field. The company did buy fencing to fence off the sinkhole, but the damage had been done.

This is false. There were NO animal deaths on this film WHATSOEVER.

    None.

    At all.

Jed Brophy was so absolutely pleased with the care that the horses received while in training and during filming that he brought his own horse over to board on the island with him.

Google more before you assume PETA BS is real. They are against the use of animals for anything, of course they will attack films where a lot of animals are acting.

I have seen The Hobbit. I love Peter Jackson as a director, his films are wonderful and he takes the utmost care of his cast and crew -- INCLUDING THE ANIMALS.

I did see the movie but hadn't heard about the deaths. The movie itself was fantastic...it clearly portrays the fight of good against evil, with good coming out on top. Very Christian and totally Tolkien!!!

By the way, I love how so many people here have Lord of the Rings names! :)

If you notice, the article mentioned that wranglers "said" animals were killed. How do we know for sure these wranglers speak the truth, or were holding a grudge for some reason? I would want more proof from a reputable media before totaly buying into this. If this were true, I would think it would be plastered on news sites everywhere.

Who cares? They're animals and expendable. We are top of the food chain and should be proud of that.
