Was looking through a yearbook and saw that last year the Rockies only had 1 pitcher pitch 100 innings..IMO this is unbelievable..Is this a first? and looking at their pitching staff, how in the world did they win 64 games..

    Amazing, isn't it.

Here is what happened: On june 19th, Jim Tracy, the then Rockies manager, announced that the Rockies were abandoning the 5 man rotation, and instead going to four starter system and limiting the starting pitcher to 75 pitches.

I supposed then that they were going to focus the team's starts on their four best starting pitchers and put that 5th arm to work in the bull pen to help with the increased workload. This experiment lasted for the next 55 starts and when Jhoulys Chacin returned to the rotation, they scrapped it altogether.

Anyway, fourteen different pitchers made starts during the season and 9 of them had 10 or more starts.

The went 16 and 39 with a 6.11 ERA and 13 and 29 in the second half. The relievers really took a beating as they went 17 and 13 in the first half with with a 4.09 ERA. And then they went 18 and 17 with a 4.92 ERA in the second half.

Al in all, quite a disaster.

Oh well,! What the Hell. Maybe now they will try another approach this year, but I think that they will go back to the 5 man rotation.

    Should be interesting.
