I'm pet-sitting a cat, and it won't shut up?!?

My parents are abroad for 3 weeks, and I'm talking care of their cat.

The first 2 weeks have gone really well, but now it's driving me nuts! It's meowing so much, it's practically screaming! It does it both during day and nighttime, but worse at night: I literally can't sleep for the noise - last night was the worst, it kept me awake from 10pm to 1am, woke me up again at 3:30am, and again at 7am, and finally at 10am. I cannot take another night like that. I'm sure the neighbors can hear it too.

I don't know what is wrong with it! It's kitty-tray is nice and clean, there's plenty of food and water :/ Nothings changed since the first 2 weeks!

Could it be bored? My parents have a big yard that they allow it to go into, and they also have a dog that the cat gets well along with.

I live in a flat in the capital, so it's only been inside here. I've been home for most of the time since I've had the cat, so it hasn't been alone. And again, why now? When the first 2 weeks were fine.

I've considered if it was in heat, but I've seen it in heat before, and it doesn't seem like that - it's just regular, loud meows, not those strange ones. And it's not being all gross either (when it's in heat, it will stand around with it's butt in the air etc. - and it's doing none of those things now)

How do I shut it up? So far, I'm trying to prevent it from sleeping too much during the day (as it did yesterday), because then hopefully it will be too tired to scream all night.

Ask your parents. Maybe the cat is sick. Maybe the cat is having a bad heat. Female cats are often in pain when they are in heat, and they mostly don't go out until they are bred.

Have you given the cat attention I know when my cat meows it is usually because the cat needs human interaction. Also if that doesn't work and the cat has never been outside I wouldn't suggest letting the cat outside especially when the owners are gone. Since once I was cat sitting and the owners where gone and they said the cats could be let outside so I let the cat out and it never came back. But if the owners said the cat is use to being outside you could let it out if nothing els works.

Yeah, it wants to go outside, but you can't let it out where you are or it will run off to find it's old home. Take it back to it's old home and let it run around, since it is probably homesick, it might be a better idea to let it stay at it's other home, and you just visit twice a day to feed it and give it water.

Cats hate being away from home, and hate being confined.

If the cat is meowing its either bored or hungry.

If its hungry get some food.

If its bored play with the cat until it tires out.

Source(s): Has a very meowing and playful cat.

It's just probably bored and lonely.

You need to give it hugs and attention like petting it and playing with it.

Give it catnip and some toys to play with too.
