What's the cost for a taxi, from the airport, to downtown Dublin?

I'm traveling with 7 of my friends to Dublin International Airport and will need a ride into downtown Dublin. I know we will need 2 cabs, do they charge per person, or can 4 ride in each cab for one flat rate ? And how much are we expected to tip for good service?

Update:

Thank you for the answers thus far. I think I get the picture that things are as expensive in Ireland as they are here, in the States.

Update 2:

Thomas, that's a terrific idea ! By the way, I did NOT td you and ramoo, I don't td anyone.

Update 3:

Excellent answers from everyone, and I thank you. I wish I could choose everyone for the "best Answer"

There's an express bus service which goes straight from the airport to O'Connell Street which costs 6 Euro per person for a one way ticket or 10 Euro for a return

Your hotel website may be able to suggest the best means of transport, if they're on a bus route it may the cheapest option

Residing in a broad bay, Dublin lies between Howth in the north and the headland of Dalkey to the south and the River Liffey split the city in two making from this city an appealing town that you will have the possibility with hotelbye to go to it. Dublin has given the entire world such well-known fictional like: Yeats, Beckett, Joyce, Shaw, and Wilde. Dublin was a UNESCO City of Literature this season therefore is surely an intriguing town to see particularly when you want to visit Bewley's Oriental Café ;.Many might say that Bewley's Oriental Café may be the gem in the crown. Bewley's Oriental Café is an institution which was integrated 1927.

Depends on the time and the day.

During the day, assuming normal traffic.

    first kilometer 4.09 €

    14.0 km. x 1.03 € per km (tariff A) 14.42 €

    0.92 km. x 1.35 € per km (tariff B) 1.24 €

    waiting in traffic (~8 min.) 3.06 €

    Total 22.83 €

on a Sunday or late at night or REALLY early in the morning it would be 28.84 €

If heavier traffic could be more expensive. I usually get to the airport from Rathmines which is just south of the inner city to the airport (north of the city) for about 25 euro.

As well ONE person is on that fare. Each additional passenger incurs a 1 euro extra. so 3 quid extra in a four seat taxi

You can get mini-bus taxi's for the same rate that would be at the same fare but in that case add 6 quid. (If you have LOADS of luggage might be too much)

The taxi rank is just to the right after leaving the arrivals lounge. There is a lad organising it. Ask him for a mini-van.

If you are just looking to get into the city centre cheaper. When you walk out the main entrance from the arrivals lounge, walk across the road, through the carpark building and get the 16 or 41 bus into town. It will cost just over 2 euro each. Having said that, it would cost you 16-17 quid, with a big group you'd be as well getting a minivan taxi straight to your hotel.

Hope you have a lovely trip to Ireland.

They have taxi vans and you all should fit in there depending on the time you leave for the airport and traffic not to mention how the taxi driver drives it can cost more than 60.00. Goodluck

I know it is a flat rate, no matter how many heads you have. The taxi are pretty expensive in my opinion, from vallejo to hercules was 40 bucks.
