What does the 'term' channel the devil mean?

On housewives of NYC Jill and Kelly both use the phrase/term to Alex that she 'channels the devil', I've wondered for a while and normally hate shows like these but I wonder if it's a real term used and I'd like to know what it means, (Whether it means she's just greedy for fame or something?)

    It means to contact the devil or communicate with the devil.
