My logbook says only 2 seats on my 7 seat car?

I have owned the car for 2 years (a Mitsubishi shogun 3.2 DiD equippe). It has the driver and front passenger seat, three comfortably large seats in the middle and 2 small seats in the back. All seats have working 3 point harnesses. Just after buying the car I mislaid the registration document and have just got a new one. Whilst looking at it I noticed under the vehicle details it says 'Number of seats including driver: 2'.

What does this mean? When I get an insurance quote and give them my reg number they know it's a 7 seater straight away. Does this mean it's illegal to carry more passengers? Could this just be a mistake?

I'm really lost....

Update:

...should probably add that I'm British which would make a difference I'm sure...

As your insurer is covering you for a 7 seater then that part is OK

As the car is properly equipped to carry 7 the Police will have no interest in it.

You should get the log book (V5C) amended though - it is probably just a typing error.

Contact DVLA to get it sorted out - because although it might just be a mistake, it rather sounds as if your vehicle may originally have been registered as a van with no seats behind the driver. If it was then converted to a passenger vehicle, DVLA should have been notified - and if they weren't you have been driving illegally, with no valid insurance, for the past two years.
