How do you use Wine on Mac and does it cause problems?
Okay, so I wanted to buy the game Sins of A Solar Empire, but it's only for Windows. I did some research, found this program called Wine, which supposedly, smoothly runs Windows programs on other operating systems. I'm using a Macbook Pro, with whatever the most recent update was, it's up to date on everything.
Exactly how do I use Wine?
Like, say I were to get the digital download of the game, would I have to open up Wine and then open the game? I have no clue what to do.
Also, my Mac is very important for the work I do, I'm a working composer (I get paid to write music for things). I'm just starting, so I'm not too dependent on it, but it could seriously hinder my future as a composer if I don't have my computer working.
So what the question to that is, will it harm my computer in anyway?
If so, what will it do, and how will it do it?
Also, any other information you have about using it or anything would be greatly appreciated.
I'm not going to buy another computer JUST to play a game, I need my Mac for work, so I can't get rid of it...

I use the Wine-based app "PlayOnMac." It's stable and runs successfully the Windows programs I've installed under it. Get it from http://www.playonmac.com/en/
It's very simple to use. Once installed, it gives you the option to install programs within it. You just need the Windows installation media or downloaded files, and it pretty much looks after the rest for you. Give it a try. I'm not a Mac person, but have to use one where I teach, and I found it very easy to use.

It is definitely possible to use Wine on your Mac to play SoaSE (I've done it). They do have a tutorial up on their site specifically to get it working.

This is a fairly difficult and lengthy process, so you probably will be intimidated. If you are, then you have no choice but to buy a different computer with Windows or Linux.
As for hurting your computer, configured wrong, it could cause some damage to your computer, but if you reverse the steps it should work again if anything stops working, no permanent damage will be done. Just follow the instructions carefully and you should be fine.

Wine is used on Linux to run some Windows applications. It won't run directly under Mac OSX. Besides, Mac's OSX isn't meant or gaming. Get Windows and make your life easier.
