I'm Gabe, I'm 16. I love music more than anything. My dream school(It's technically a trade school) is Musicians Institute in LA. I want to major in either drum performance or audio engineering. I play drums, guitar, bass, and violin(I suck at violin). I listen to almost every type of music, from black metal to hip hop. I prefer metal over anything though. • Why is the MSI GP70 the same price as the GP60?

I'm looking into buying an MSI, to use for gaming, nothing else though, as I have a Macbook Pro that I use for music programs, and I use that for everything else as well.

My question is, however, when I went on MSI's website, I was looking at the models, and I compared the GP70 to the GP60 to see why they were the same price, expecting to find some sort of flaw or something in the GP70. After comparison, I found that the GP70 has either equal or better specs to the GP60, such as 250GB more storage, a larger screen, the same weight, etc.. So is there any sort of downfall of the GP70 that would push me to buy the GP60? Such as reliability, or if it tends to run faster or something?

This link is to the official MSI website with the comparison:

  • Looking for a laptop that I can use to game for under $1000?

I don't want anything crazy expensive, as I also have a Macbook Pro (I'm a music major and need to use it for all the midi software and stuff available for them). I'm not concerned about using the computer for anything other than gaming. However, with that said, I don't want to spend so much money on something that I'm only using for just gaming. I do however want to be able to play most games. I'm not concerned about being able to run games on the absolute highest settings, but I don't want to be stuck playing on low settings, or have it just be skipping a lot or having long loading times or anything. So basically, I want to be able to play most games, games like Skyrim, Fallout, Civilization, the Total War games, The Sims (Not too worried, cause those are always made for Mac as well), stuff like that.

So in short, I would like a laptop that can play games alright, but I would like to spend under $1000

  • Ram not sitting correctly in MacBook Pro...?

How much does it generally cost to get that fixed? Should I bring it to somewhere like Best Buy? Or to the Apple store? Or would a local computer store work fine?

I dropped it and now it makes three consecutive beeps, then a five second pause, and continues beeping and what not. I looked that up, and that apparently means the ram isn't sitting correctly I guess?

  • I'm writing a paper for my Western civilization class on Pythagoreanism...?

What should I include? Obviously I'll include Pythagoras, but what else is there that would make a good paper on it? I'll include the philosophies, and do a sum of all that I find. But does anybody know of anything I should pay particular attention to?

Also, some good, trustworthy sources would be greatly appreciated!

  • Want to start getting into pedals?

I want to start using pedals more, I've never really been one for using pedals, I would just use the settings on my amp (Line 6 Spider III and a Line 6 Spider IV). I only would really use distortion and stuff, to get a basic sound. On guitar I play metalcore mostly, which is what my band is, with a bluesy twist sometimes, and sometimes a really dark feel to it. So what would be some good pedals for me? The guitar I use the most is a Schecter Hellraiser C-1, with active pickups. Would it be good to buy a foot switch too? To switch between channels on my amp. The amp has pretty good distortion and stuff, but the effects like delay and others aren't the greatest.

  • How do you use Wine on Mac and does it cause problems?

Okay, so I wanted to buy the game Sins of A Solar Empire, but it's only for Windows. I did some research, found this program called Wine, which supposedly, smoothly runs Windows programs on other operating systems. I'm using a Macbook Pro, with whatever the most recent update was, it's up to date on everything.

Exactly how do I use Wine?

Like, say I were to get the digital download of the game, would I have to open up Wine and then open the game? I have no clue what to do.

Also, my Mac is very important for the work I do, I'm a working composer (I get paid to write music for things). I'm just starting, so I'm not too dependent on it, but it could seriously hinder my future as a composer if I don't have my computer working.

So what the question to that is, will it harm my computer in anyway?

If so, what will it do, and how will it do it?

Also, any other information you have about using it or anything would be greatly appreciated.

  • Jobs with a conducting (music) degree?

I plan on going to UAlbany next semester, and I can't decide on a major. My two choices are composition or conducting.

If I were to compose, I would want to compose for movies, but would settle for things such as commercials, indie films, and stuff like that. But I ultimately would just want to write for myself, but I would love to make a living through it.

But, I also think conducting would be an amazing way to make money. It looks incredibly fun. But I don't know what the possible jobs are or how to get them.

Like, obviously I can conduct for orchestras and stuff, but if I can't do that, what are other possible options? Also, on average, what does a conductor make if known?

  • Question for those that have universal healthcare in their country...?

I live in the US, and I'm a strong supporter of universal healthcare. I always debate with my parents about it, as they're incredibly conservative. I was wondering what you guys have found to be great about universal healthcare, and things you've found to be flawed in it, if any. From all the people I've talked to about it (Generally Canadian or Swedish people, due to the college I go to having a high population of both), there don't seem to be many flaws. I want to know about your experiences with it. Things like how easy it is to get surgeries, how long any waits in line are, if you need cutting edge surgery, if you can get it (my parents seem to think we're the only place in the world that have it cutting edge technologies), and any other things you feel to be important.

    Thanks

  • What are some good areas to play in for a band from Albany, NY?

We're from Albany, and play Albany, but we want to get our name out further. Obviously Poughkeepsie or Kingston, and New York City. Should we invest in Buffalo and Rochester? Should we try to get on for some college parties, because like half of us are college students?

We really just want to get our name out, start working on getting somewhere. Where in the surrounding states should we look at? Also, do you know any bands from any of the cities like Buffalo, NYC, Poughkeepsie, maybe somewhere in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New Jersey?

Also, if anybody knows a place we can get shirts designed that would be great. Preferably in or around Albany. Like, we need an actual design made.

  • How can I live healthily on a budget?

This Saturday I'm going away to college. I'm going across the country to Los Angeles (My family's from upstate New York) and I want to try to be healthy. I haven't been the healthiest person living here, but I've decided that I would like to live a healthier life than I have in the past years. I'll be living in the Hollywood area, so any stores anybody knows of around there would help as well. But I'll probably end up at a normal supermarket. I'm not looking to start eating all organic food, as I won't be able to afford that ($900 a month for rent, $23,000 a year for tuition, and all the other expenses). But I would like to be healthy, and as cheaply as possible. I'm going to start running out there as well (If you know any SAFE places I can do that as well in the area, that would be appreciated). But overall, I'm mostly looking for things like cheaper food items that are healthy, and stores that tend to have lower prices for healthy options.

  • How can I improve upon my guitar writing?

I play lead guitar for a band called His Last Breath, for a while I've been trying to get my song better and better, and it has been, but I just want some more advice, so any opinions are welcome, whether you like the music or not. Anybody's opinion is accepted, whether you know how to play guitar or not. Also, I'm not sure, but it might require you to like the page first, but I'm going to take it off for those of you that don't have Facebook. It's metalcore, so keep that in mind.

  • What band name do you think is better?

My metalcore band is currently looking to change their name, right now we're called Light The Way, but a few of us used to be in a band together called Silence The Void and then we all kind of just joined Light The Way. Now we're thinking about changing it to Silence The Void, but we also might go with His Last Breath. Which name would be better of the three? Or if you have a suggestion, please feel free to suggest it.

  • What kind of Aquarian heads should I put on my Tama Rockstar?

I have a Tama Rockstar drumset, it's got a 13" mounted tom, and a 16" floor tom, I also have a Blank Panther snare drum, I can't remember the exact model. I know I want to go with clear heads possibly with one of the built-in sound ring things(sorry I don't know all the technical names xD). I kind of want to get a sound that the drummer from Blessthefall has with his toms, I'll post a link. price doesn't matter at all to me, I'll pay as much as they cost. I've been having trouble finding heads the whole time I've been playing, Aquarian has been my favorite company so far, so I'm going with them.

  • How can I get better quicker?

I've been sick for the whole week and I'm tired of it. My symptoms are fevers, headaches, a really bad sore throat since Tuesday, body aches, throwing up(only tonight) and a runny nose(started yesterday). I went to the doctor and she said it was a cold, she prescribed me Claritin, it helped me earlier for a few hours after I took it but it feels like it made my runny nose worse. Anything I taste tastes the same, it's kind of a metally taste. I haven't had food at all today, I tried to eat earlier, I took a bite of a banana and I threw up. Please help me!!!

  • The bridge on my Ibanez RG5EX1 keeps raising when I tune it.?

I bought new strings for all of my guitars and all went on fine, except for my Ibanez RG5EX1. It has a whammy bar, which I don't have on right now, but because it has the whammy bar the bridge has the ability to raise and lower. Whenever I tune it to any tuning from as low as dropped A to standard, the bridge is raised. Because of this the strings end up being very far away from the fretboard and it becomes very hard to play and tune, I really need this guitar for my band because we're covering a few songs in standard but we play in dropped C#, tuning my RG3EXFM1 from dropped C# to standard would take a little bit and it would be so much easier to just use a second guitar. How can I solve this? If need be I have a Pro Coverage warranty from Guitar Center that I can use to get the money for a new guitar.
