name change for a flight is a rip off?

a friend couldn't go on this trip, so she gave me the ticket, but i need to change the name.

i'm flying with easyjet, and they say that i have to pay the difference from the original booking price to the actual price which is fair enough. ( i'm travelling from gatwick to valencia)

but then they tell me i have to pay an additional 200 POUND? from what? how and why?

if you have had past experience with name changing or with easyjet pleeease answer, i'm so angry and confused.

thanks!

EasyJet's policy, according to their website, is charging you a fee of £35 for the name change, plus the additional amount for the difference in fare between what was originally paid and the cost of a new ticket.

As for why they are charging these fees, it is simply because they can. EasyJet is actually one of the few airlines that allows you to change the name on a ticket, even with the payment of the fee, so keep in mind that the fee that you are paying (despite your belief that it is a rip-off) is likely cheaper than what it would cost you to buy a new ticket entirely.

I am surprised the airlines are allowing a name change because usually you have to buy a new ticket and the person who cannot go would have to pay a cancellation fee and then get a travel voucher. In my opinion you are getting a good deal. However I would also look into how much it would cost just to buy a new ticket under your name.

suck it up and pay the price if you want the ticket cuz the majority of airlines do not even allow a change of name on the ticket.

btw its not just a change of name its a change of all the personal info.

you call it a name change. In reality, her ticket was cancelled and was used to purchase a new ticket with your name on it.

Once a name is on a ticket, it cannot be changed. That is the Law.

£200 forget it, probably cheaper just to rebook. Don't think i've ever spent more than £100 on an easyjet flight.

I'm surprised they're letting you do it at all. Plane tickets are usually non-transferable.

there is really no reason it costs that much. it is just industry standard.
