Is diesel used to heat a house the same as Diesel in the truck?

I changed my furnace from oil (diesel) to natural gs now I have a bunch of heating oil left. I have a small tractor that uses diesel but it will take me ten years to use up what I have left. Years ago I wold run down to the gas station and get five gallons of diesel to keep my home furnace running through the night and I never had any problem with it. Would it be safe to use the diesel in my furnace oil storage tank in a diesel car/pickup? It is a combination of #1 and Number 2 as the delivery company delivered what they felt was appropriate for the weather.

HOLD UP BEFORE YOU GO PUTTING IT IN YOUR TRUCK

So what home heating oil and diesel at the pump and the diesel you heat your home with is refinement

This is important based on the year of your truck, and if you have a newer one and pour it in the tank you could fry the injectors

Now im not familiar with every truck but im going with my general knowledge of diesel engines over the last 20 years

So what happened is in the 1990s people who owned diesels could use the home heating oil because the trucks were designed to run the diesel before the ultra low sulfer we have today, now that was how it was with people running cars and trucks off it until about 2003-2005 when the fed announced the switching to Ultra Low Sulfer

Now the ultra low sulfer combined with people expecting better millage per tank of diesel lead the car makers to keep going up in the pressure used in the injectors in the engine, witch allowed great gas millage.

Now, the diesel at the pump is many times filtered and is capable of being run at this high pressure (somewhere around 5000psi+) but home heating doesn't need to be filtered to this level, because its not being run through any high pressure injectors

So Moral is that the home heating oil in a new diesel engine will kill your injectors in no time, then when they rip apart the fuel system to fix it and see your home heating oil being used illegally, you could get a whistle blower at the garage who tells on you

Basically do your research on your truck year, and if you aren't sure dont take that chance

They are not the same liquids. You shouldn't use heating oil in a vehicle and vice versa - it will mess up your engine eventually. There is a reason why they have different names - they have different properties, different viscosity etc. If I were you I would just try selling the fuel you have left to someone who can use it for the purpose it's intended for. Hope that helps!

SAME THING, JUST DONT GET CAUGHT WITH HEATING OIL OR FARM FUEL IN YOUR ROAD VEHICLE, THERE IN NO HIGHWAY TAX ON FARM OR HEATING FUEL. HUGE FINE IF THE D.O.T. ENFORCMENT OFFICER CATCHES YOU.

ROAD FUEL HAS A DYE IN IT SO THEY CAN EASILY TELL WHAT IT IS
