I have a question for Muslim girls?

Ok I just wanna start by apologizing for anything that seems insulting... I'm honestly not trying to insult you. I am curious about the veil/scarf/hijab that you wear (I'm not sure what it's called). What does it mean? Why do you wear it? I am sorry got my ignorance and don't mean any disrespect.

The quick and easy answer would be that we are called to cover ourselves to keep from being objectified by men. When we wear the hijab or niqab (there are different types of covering, rather like some Christian women wear long skirts to church and others are fine in jeans and flip flops), men are pushed past admiring only our physical beauty and we are treasured for the valuable pieces of society that we are. My veil protects me from unwanted approaches and comments and gives me confidence in who I am insha'Allah. I'd much rather a man admire me for my accomplishments in school and conversation than how big my chest is or how my hair looks.

Never mind .. It is ok ..

    Hijab is the veil ..

The Muslim girl wears it because it prevents many problems that may happen for them ..

And by the way, We Muslims believe in Mary ( the mother of Jesus the Christ ) ..

There is a chapter in the holy Quran that called ( Mary ) ..

The God almighty ( Allah in my language ) tells us that Mary is the Chosen woman of all worlds ..

She was the best Woman devoted to the God almighty ..

Mary did wear the veil ..

We Muslims are following the teachings of the Christ and his mother more than you ..

We Muslims are more Christians than the Christians themselves .l

I admire and appreciate your curiosity.

Once Muslim girls hit puberty, they are required to cover themselves with hijab and clothes that only show nothing but their faces and their hands.

Not in any way is this oppressing but rather, Muslim females are treated with utmost respect and their beauty is only reserved for those who can fully appreciate them. This is to safeguard them from any malicious intent from the opposite sex or committing sins with the opposite sex as the opposite sex are easily drawn to the female beauty.

However, they need not wear the hijab at home, if around family or in the presence of specific people or mahram men that are related by marriage such as their husband and father-in-law or those related by blood such as their father, grandfather, brothers, and uncles on maternal side and nephews, if I'm not mistaken. But once, out of the house, they need to wear it.

Even if they refuse to wear hijab, they are still committing a sin nevertheless. Because a single strand on their hand when viewed by non-mahram men is considered a sin. And there's thousands of hair on a female's head. Imagine how many sins are committed if she is seen without a hijab by just one non-mahram man. And imagine how many men she happen to pass by in the streets everyday.

Those who wear the hijab for spiritual reasons feel spiritually connected to God. However, there are still some who wear it for the wrong reason eg fashion. In Islam, Muslim women need to wear their hijab in a way that it covers their bosoms as these present attractive qualities to men however, there are still Muslim girls who wear tights clothings, leggings/skinny jeans that shows the curves of their bodies and sometimes hijabs that only cover their hair but doesn't cover their necks or bosoms, which is not really the right way of wearing the hijab.

These are all I know, but it may not be extensive. Hope it helps in any way.

Angel or right glory is a good friend of mine- here is her blog http://truthseekerswisdom.blogspot.com/

Until the 20th century it was not uncomon for Christian women to wear head scarfs in church or even in daily life. Think of Babushkas (grandmothers) in their Paltoks (head scarf in Russian) or even type in 19th century Ellis Island immigrants- and you'll see quite a few Irish, Italians and others.

Granted I'm not Muslim, I'm actually Christian but I am a veiled woman, and I wear it mainly for reasons of modesty, self-respect, and piety
