Why are Korean church goers overly passionate about God?

How did it start? More and more korean people are changing their belief to God. Creating more Korean churches. What I find most strange is everything (bible and songs) gets translate to Korean. If you ever been to a korean church, it's actually open to everyone but everything is spoken in Korea, so truthfully it's for only Koreans. It feel very foreign to a none korean, like myself and it's hard to try to understand this wave. They cry, they break down and become overwhelm. I guess you have to understand Korean to fully experience that emotional moment. Anyway, I feel they're taken it to a whole different level. I see them pray for their life, for strength and happiness and it seems strange the way they do it. I honestly think they believe God might also be Korean. What's happening??? Why do I find it so strange and annoying???

Missionaries took advantage of identity crisis in Korea after world war 2 . and spread their religion. Koreans found it way to express themselves and have false hope about the future. sooner or later , they will wake up especially with their economy grown strong and education is getting better (hopefully). they will be less motivated to stick to a false hope. I've seen this situation unfold in front of me, a chinese girl devastated by her boyfriend breakup, her christian "friend" who is actually just missionary made her find Jesus, she embraced Jesus to forget about her pain. Brainwashed people brainwashing other people.

Right. Because it would make so much sense to have Spanish churches for Koreans.

Hi Jason, it is called Revival (new awakening in God).

In Korea people speak Korean, it makes sense that they speak Korean in their churches just like they speak English in churches in lets say London. They speak the language of the surrounding area.

My dad is a pastor and we did some outreaches to some other countries. We recently spent some time in Pretoria South Africa in the squatter camps and trailer parks (poorest of the poor) . If we bring the word to them in only English they would not know what we say, but we had a translator who translated what we said to Afrikaans and Tshwana so that they can understand what we say.

I think what you are describing is more of a question of culture than anything else. For example, the English culture tends to be more reserved and, therefore, their services tend to be more reserved. Here in the United States, African American services tend to be VERY expressive and boisterous because their culture is more expressive and boisterous while those of more conservative groups tend to be more reserved. And then there are also the different cultures between denominations .... the more reserved services of Catholicism and the VERY expressive services of the charismatic denominations. The services i attend are the "VERY expressive" kind, but when i visit the congregations with the more reserved services, i understand the differences and acclimate my worship style to match theirs ....... just a matter of love and respect for them. But i suppose having that in reverse would be uncomfortable for you ... and not surprising that you would feel that way. But i hope this input does help you in some way.

That's weird. I blame the Americans.

Or it could be Samsung. You're talking about South Korea only, right ?

Minorities band together because of problems they face that they have in common. Religion gives people hope. Put the 2 together. Same with African Americans. They loooove church and being alll dramatic about it.

I have no idea why you find it annoying and strange.

I think it's a good thing when people find God
