Diastolic dysfunction is the heart's inability to properly relax resulting in impaired filling of blood prior to the contraction phase. This can result in heart failure symptoms and is essentially treated in the same manner as systolic dysfunction. However, diastolic and systolic dysfunction are different in their physiology. This patient does NOT have systolic dysfunction based on her EF. The EF is the ejection fraction, or the amount/percentage of blood pumped out of the ventricle with each contraction. 63% is very normal and indicates good systolic function. A normal EF is between 55-70%. The EF has NOTHING do do with diastolic dysfunction as the other posters implied. Be careful what you read on this forum as people will post things they really don't fully understand. For example, Mildred is incorrect 90% of the time in the information she posts.

There is some minor congestive heart failure. The 63% is a minor decrease in how effectively the heart pumps out blood. Wouldn't be concerned about this aspect. The normal for EF is 55-70%. She has had hypertension to cause this I expect.
