connected jump battery wrong?

69 mustang with 351 was jump starting car and connected cables backwards now starter selenoid just ticks rapidly changed selenoid ( on fender ) still does same

    you cant do that I have jump started cars for 40 years and never once hooked them up wrong what is with this there are a lot of questions from people who do this. The car needs to go to you mechanic so he can figure out what all got fried best of luck start checking fuses there is no protection from reverse voltages for any of the electrical stuff in that car so replacing some stuff may be in order lets hope a good electrical shop can fix the problem

    When those old Ford solenoids tick rapidly like that it usually means it's not getting enough amps to turn the starter over. Bad battery or bad connection usually. You could possibly have shorted out your battery by doing that. Have the battery tested and the terminals cleaned and tightened.

  • battery is weak, you may have blown a fuse or two with the reverse polarity.
