To add or subtract fractions, you need a common denominator (the bottom number).

So, you multiple the 3/2 by 6/6 and get 18/12.

    Multiple 1/4 by 3/3 and get 3/12.

    Multiple 1/6 by 2/2 and get 2/12.

Then when you add/subtract you just do it to the numerators (the top number).

    The denominator stays the same.

    So, 18-3+2=17.

    Keep the denominator the same.

    You get 17/12.

The reason you multiplied by like 6/6, 3/3, and 2/2 is because technically, you're multiplying by 1.

Since you multiply by 1, you aren't really changing anything.

All you're changing is how the number looks pretty much, but it has the same value.

    Hope this helped.

Edit: Sorry, I should probably mention that when you multiply fractions you just go straight across on both numerator and denominator. Dividing fractions is a tiny bit more complicated, but not by much. We'll save that for another day.

    3/2 - 1/4 + 1/6 is 18/12 - 3/12 + 2/12 = 20/12 - 3/12 then it's 17/12 or 1 5/12.

    this is not an equation.

3/4 + a million/3 to characteristic the two fractions jointly, you will could have a similar denominator. the hassle-loose denominator may be chanced on through doing LCM with the two present denominators. For this question, the LMC of four and 3 is 12. So 3/4 + a million/3 will become (3*3)/12 + (a million*4)/12, which equals 9/12 + 4/12 those fractions can actual be extra. the respond is 13/12 or a million a million/12.
