I have never heard of ANY state that requires a license for harvesting morel mushrooms or any other kinds of edible mushrooms, picking berries or wild fruit, ginseng, nuts/pine seeds or asparagus, etc. Some people make quite a small business of gathering wild edibles and some go so far as to follow the season of the morels from the southern states up through the midwest into the northern tier of states following the mushrooms as they come into season. Even here in Alaska, the morel is one of the most popular of our wild edibles. Go for it and enjoy the experience AND the menu. It's GREAT!
