Do some insulins make you gain weight?

My health care company just changed my insulin from Novolin N to Humulin N because, in their words, it's cheaper!

I'm having chaotic blood sugar readings & have not changed my diet. Have gained a pound in a week.

The doctor is telling me I will have to buy the Novolin elsewhere if I want to go back to it. It's unbelievable since it was not my idea to change.

BTW we pay $1.200 a month for this crappy insurance (Kaiser).

That really sucks having to pay above and beyond high insurance premiums.

I'm currently fortunate that although I've had diabetes for the past 6 years, I did notice that being able to exercise and having the wherewithal to exercise are sometimes hard to reconcile.

I started out with 500mg and am now up to 1000mg for type II, granted I had to sacrifice 20 of my most productive human capital years in order to qualify for "somewhat" affordable health coverage after I retired from the military.

For the first 10 years of retirement I had to pay $480 a year for tri-care coverage, this last year it went up for the first time to nearly $600 a year, still far less than what you're being forced into paying each month.

I don't have any known solutions for your current problem, but I did receive a prescription discount card in the mail, (RxReliefCard.com) which I can't really use because all my prescriptions either are filled at my local clinic or hospital or I receive them in the mail, my wife has the same problem with needing non-generic drug formulations for her prescriptions through the mail because our local drug stores often rip us off for the quantity of drugs per co-payment.

You could try getting your Novolin N from "expressscripts" if Kaiser has a contractual agreement with them.

I was once told that once type II drugs no longer control blood sugar levels that it's nearly impossible to lose weight on insulin injections, I don't know if that's just to scare type II people like myself or if there's any truth to that anecdote.

Variances in insulin manufacturers can make a difference. Be reminded how important sugar intake is with diabetes/insulin.

There is tons of added sugar in many forms in our modern diet.

Even if there is no added sugar simple carbs like flour are quickly converted to - sugars.

Try eating whole foods in their simplest forms. The insulin should work better with a healthy diet.
