When do reservoir capacitors discharge?

Is it at the start of the 2nd quarter cycle of the input waveform (the moment Vin drops from peak)?

Or is it at the end of the 2nd quarter cycle (when Vin reaches 0)?

I am assuming you are talking about a full bridge rectifier with a capacitor on the output and a sine wave on the input to the bridge?

If so then as soon as the input voltage starts dropping (from peak) then the diodes are reverse biased and will no longer conduct. Therefore the output voltage has to be maintained from the capacitors which then start to supply current and therefore discharge.

As soon as the input voltage is not high enough to keep the diodes forward biased.
