    This is because the male determines the gender of the child, as females only have X chromosome gametes, where an XX = Female and XY = Male. The X and Y are the sex chromosomes, the autosomes are the twenty two other pairs of chromosomes that give you your genetic blueprint and all that physically makes you YOU. You receive one chromosome from your mother and father for each pair of chromosomes known as homologous pairs :)

    p.s. Gametes are formed through meiosis + ! cell can produce 4 gametes from meiosis
