Are those who flaunt an ideology imprisoning themselves to this one mindset with their arrogance?
People who act so smug and sanctimonious about being some ideology whether right wing or left wing just come across as blind, because they will never recognize flaws of their system and are imprisoned to this mindset.
That is at least my opinion and my experience.
Prove me wrong, half of these people who swear on one ideology usually ignore flaws or mistakes of own group, rather than be open-minded and not follow the party line so blindly.
ingsoc I said RIGHT or LEFT wing, both are guilty of this.
Irie: Thank you for being humble.
Corrine: You are posting a question to get praise from one side. Really I identify as Liberal Anarchist, but Liberal part fits more because of my beliefs according to human rights, anarchist part is because I believe neither side is ever right.
Post Modernist: Shows what you know, I simply don't follow the party line, both sides are just as corrupt, but congrats for missing the point.
Really appears ruffled feathers, I reckon I know whom getting best answer, Irie.

I follow a philosophy not a party, nor do I excuse flaws or mistakes of the group - humans make errors.
My philosophy is based on keeping those policies and institutions that benefit individuals and society and changing those which need improvement.
There are people who will disagree with the policies and disagree that the institutions I consider beneficial are the best. And that is what the debate is really all about. Or should be about.
But there are those who attack the individuals, ignoring the ideas and focusing on simply dismissing them by denigrating the holder of the opinion. Kind of like what you're doing.

I was a leftist, and found that far more "imprisoning"....having and projecting a victim mentality on yourself and others is far more restrictive.
And if feeling liberated is sanctimonious and smug....so be it!
Have a pleasant day. :)
EDIT: By the way, I can almost smell your post-modernist worldview from here.
EDIT: lol. I'm really sorry that you find it offensive that I'm "closed-minded" because I don't subscribe to anarchy. The most pathetic thing about your response is that you don't have any idea either what a post-modern worldview is, or are even clever enough to decipher my intent to call myself conservative...NOT republican, because I don't "follow the party line" either.
For your edification:
Postmodernist Viewpoint: 'There is no single world view that captures reality, no master story (or ... There is no right or wrong; truth is up to each person.'
Your choice for Best Answer: "We can not run a society if we all maintain that our own position is right and everyone else is 100 percent wrong."
Still want to deny you have postmodern worldview?

Yes I would agree. People need be more flexible with their ideas, the left and right and everyone in between. We can not run a society if we all maintain that our own position is right and everyone else is 100 percent wrong. The best answer to a problem usually lies somewhere in between two extremes.

Having ideals is hardly imprisoning. It's when you surround yourself with people, news sources...etc that are preaching those same ideals and never being exposed to opposing viewpoints that there's a close mindedness.

While I agree with your statement, I'm not clear as to what your question is.
