Is shortage of .22 long rifle ammo throughout USA or just local?
Dad has been trying to buy .22 long rifle ammo for a couple months with no luck. Word is that as soon as a shipment is received it is sold within a couple hours despite 3 box limit per customer, due to texting and tweeting friends.
Is this throughout the USA?
Any idea why, other than cheap target practice?

There is a shortage of everything not just 22 s. the last place I went to had 9 boxes of 50 left so I bought them all. I talked to the store owner and he said he won't be able to get stuff for about 6 months. Also went to a couple of gun shops they are all out. You can't find 9mm or 223 s any where. I even reload and the ten places I checked with are even out of stock on reloading componites, such as bullets and brass. Good luck finding ammo. If you do find a store with ammo or 22 s I would buy up everything that you can use. I just bought a new 9mm and can't shoot it due to not being able to find ammo. I live in Vermont and it is like that here, but also tryed to buy stuff from all over the states and everyone is out of stock.

i think it's nationwide, been hearing about it for a month
pretty sure gun ban / ammo ban fears, since they come in bricks of 525 and to the uneducated that sounds like alot and should be restricted... if it's not the Obama gun ban then it's California's gun ban legislation, where there is a 500 rd ammo ban bill is on the table.
i'm considering selling mine, box by box or brick by brick but just can't decide whether I should or shouldn't. And what price? $50 a brick? the price must be high enough to ensure I can restock in the future, 22lr has been skyrocketing, currently $35 (if it's in stock) from $8 a brick when i stocked in 2006!
If anyone feels their need for .22lr is worth 50 bucks per 500 let me know.

I live in Wisconsin. I have seen .22 ammo for sale at all the usual places. .223 is completely sold out everywhere and 7.62x39 is available but scarce. The same goes for 9mm. You have to look any time you go someplace that sells it and buy it right then and there, because it won't be there when you come back. Hopefully supply can meet demand soon.

I live in Michigan. I love hunting and unfortunately, ran out of ammo. I went to buy some, but every store I try is all sold out.. I have gone to many stores and been calling all over for 22. lr ammo and still, they have all been out of stock. I have searched many many online sites and I have not been able to find any ammo that is in stock. USA shortage of ammo. Whyyy??

* USA *...Yes they are artificially rationing ammo intentionally.* The Military, Police, Government, Law Enforcement DHS etc. are first in line and have been buying mass amounts of ammo.*...The Civilian population are at the bottom of the list as customers.* In the mean time using that as a false reason for continuing raising the prices of Guns, Ammo, and Accessories.*...

and people laughed in November when I bought 5 rifles, 3 shotguns, 4 handguns and 50k rounds of ammo for them all. Give it a month or 2 and things will calm down.

Everything is sold out everywhere.
Those 3-6 box limits are jokes. They wait for a shipment and then bring family members along.

Pretty sure the panic buying/hoarding is going on everywhere in the USA due to fears about legislation from Washington making it harder to buy guns and ammo.

Nationwide. It isn't just .22 LR either.
People are concerned that there will be regulations imposed on the purchase and/or manufacture of ammunition due to the rhetoric that surrounds our current political administration and that it may be unavailable in the future.

Obama is on the gun banning band wagon. There are shortages of handgun and rifle ammo, semi-auto rifles, magazines, and reloading components.
