  • Using Gift Certificates and Coupons Frowned On For Dates, Smiled On After Marriage?

I get the impression that it is sort of taboo to use "alternatives" for money, like gift certificates/cards and coupons during the dating phase of the relationship (as if someone needed to prove they can "afford" to take out another), but after marriage there is a switch to it being considered frugal to do so (as if since it is now "our" money being saved, it is okay to do that now).

    Opinions?

Does the fact that the gift certificates/cards were purchased by myself at a particular time when I was able to earn a lot of frequent flyer miles doing so? Serious example was that purchasing $1200 worth of such gift certificates/cards from five different restaurants during a special promotion period earned me enough miles to fly a special flight award that was a trip to Japan, Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand that was 33 days long and 15 flights in international business class for 150,000 miles earned through that promotion plus less than $200 in taxes and fees. Such manipulation of promotions earned me more than Two Million Frequent Flier Miles in just over three and a quarter years, also earning lifetime mid-tier elite flying status.

    Does that make a difference?

Are coupons, like from the Entertainment books, which generally are only useful when purchasing two meals, a turn off?

Just trying to understand the perceptions and interpretations of the opposite sex, but welcome opinions and experiences from everyone.

    Thanks.

  • Why are high beam switches no longer on floor?

Used to be, until the 80's, that the switches for high beam on/off were on the floor, activates with a left foot switch. I really preferred that.

Why the switch to the steering wheel stalk, which isn't as easy to work when you need to make a switch while going through a turn, especially if you have a manual transmission?

  • Intermittent Failure of Accord Nav System?

The Nav system often still works fine, but sometimes the data input for forward motion from the wheels cuts out, so the car icon on the map stops moving forward, but still turns/rotates in response to wheel inputs.

Is there a cable or plug I can check that may have come loose, and where do I find it?

Unfortunately the Nav system does not reference the GPS satellites very often, like current handheld GPS devices do, so it doesn't get corrected (with a jump) for minutes.

    I appreciate any help.

  • Why no longer foot switches for high beams?

If one is maneuvering through a turn, and especially if one drives a manual transmission, one's left hand may not be near the "light stick", and also not available to leave the wheel to drop the high beams if one's right hand is busy on the gear shift...

Besides, the left foot has nothing better to do more than 99% of the time.

  • How do I clear some USB memory space on my Droid smart phone?

I have a lot of system space and gobs of SD space, but my USB space keeps shrinking.

Any ideas as to what fills up that space, what consequences there are for too little free space in there, and what I need to do or delete to free up space in there?

    Thanks

  • Why are there so many Emergency Alert System tests?

Watch cable TV, and yet another day when we had a monthly AND a weekly EAS test the same day.

I have seen two tests within 15 minutes of each other, and more within the same week.

Why are so many of these stupid tests needed, blanking out every cable channel while it is going?

Why can't these tests be scheduled in for a certain time at late night, so they can be accounted for in the channel guide, and no show time nor advertising time gets blanked out randomly?

  • Opinion on turning cremated remains into synthetic diamonds?

Don't have my own family so barring a change in that, seriously considering specifying after my passing that after cremation, some synthetic diamonds be made using that material, and considering a setting designed by me for each to be set in a necklace, to be given to several fairly close female family members.

After the laser engraved serial number on the girth, have my name added (requires 20x magnification to read).

The colors it would be are either a canary yellow (less expensive and able to be grown larger, up to 2.0 carats) or blue (more expensive, longer process, only up to about 1 carat).

Would you appreciate being a recipient of such, wear it to formal family occasions, etc.?

  • TV or movie *scene* with crazy "password" game?

Do NOT say "Password" game show. I mean a scene in a drama where the characters are playing the game in their home.

I can't recall the TV show or movie scene where there are couples playing a "password" type game, where one gives clues to the other to guess the correct word. There was one sort of weird couple in which she was giving the wrong clue, but he was guessing the right answer first time, ecru time, and the rest of the people are like "what?", "that's not..."!

I remember that one set was that she gave the clue "capital of China", and he gave the correct answer she was trying to get him to say, "Hong Kong". It was hilarious in that you couldn't tell if she just knew how his warped mind worked and figured out how to Getty him to say the actual answer he needed to say, or if they were both screwed up in the exact same way and it just worked for them.

I actually once did sort of the same thing with a cousin of mine, exactly that type of game, I looked into his eyes and gave him the first word of a movie title, "Navy...", and he immediately shouted out the correct other word of the title (I just needed the second word by itself), "...Seals". No way either of our female partners would have gotten that. His female partner, his wife, was not happy that he answered the other team's (mine) "password" for us. :)

  • Is shortage of .22 long rifle ammo throughout USA or just local?

Dad has been trying to buy .22 long rifle ammo for a couple months with no luck. Word is that as soon as a shipment is received it is sold within a couple hours despite 3 box limit per customer, due to texting and tweeting friends.

    Is this throughout the USA?

Any idea why, other than cheap target practice?

  • How to reopen a question to give an actual correct answer after it's been mis-labeled "resolved"?

It's nice that people try to help by posting their ideas of answers, but I see so many that have not been correctly answered. Any way to get it reopened for a right answer?
