OMG: Why do people who have next to no reverance or regard for God say "Oh my God"?
Come on folks, you probably drop dozens of OMG's throughout the day, but you have no real belief in God, and/or no real practice in or around the things of God, going to church, reading a bible - anything.
* Why do you say it?
* Who is your God?
Let me know
Thanks

I bet it became popular to say once people figured out that the god of the bible doesn't exist. It specifically says to not say it in vain, so it started as kind of rebellious to begin with, and now it is just a common expression, though I too believe it is used far to often. I wonder what people used to say before the god myth came about. Oh my banana? I guess we'll never know.

i bypass with OMIF or OMFIF (Oh My Imaginary pal). it is in polite reaction to the believers who objected approximately atheists utilizing OMG or OMFG in this area. the ethical of this tale is: Take care that what you ask for is what you actual need. What you're saying makes some experience, regardless of the undeniable fact that on the top of the day it remains especially lots merely wordplay.

Wouldnt it be worse for someone who DOES believe in god to go around saying omg all the time? I mean, for them, they are going against one of the 10 commandments. For me, I am just makin fun of your religion while cursing.

It's the same reason I say "go f - - - yourself" even though I don't expect you to be biologically capable of that act. It's a saying. An expression. One I grew up hearing and started to use. It shows amazement, and is easier to say then "Well I'll be dipped in sh!t!".

It upsets strictly religious people.
It's just a part of our language. I use the word 'sarcastic', but don't really mean someone is tearing flesh. I don't have to believe in god or Jesus to use their names as semi-swear words. I do the same with 'Satan'.

The reason is unexplainable. It's because you shouldn't do and a substitute for swearing its out of frustration and also desire not to swear also because they're not Christian they don't see it as blasphemy. My God is not Listed.

If there's one thing that gets up my nose is people constantly saying 'Oh my God'
I've heard them say Oh MyGod when they see a dead pigeon or if it starts raining or anything trivial. it's enough to make you scream. AAAAaaaahhhhhh......

Its just an expression, like "Bless you". When I say "its raining cats and dogs" I don't actually believe that. Nor do I mean things like "saving face", "pot calling the kettle black" etc. literally.

It's like saying "Oh brother" when some people are only childs.

It is in common use and a habit.
