I need a honda tech about a 5-speed trans question?

I have a 2003 1.7 dx 5-speed civic 2 door and i have about 2inch of play (slack) in the shifter ,I worked on big trucks for 30 years and can build them trans ,But dont know about thes small ones i have ck the cables at the shifter in the car and its fine ,Its good and tight ,And i ck it at the trans and the cables are good and tight ,But i can move the arm comming out of the trans ,I going to say it goes in to the shift fork and thats where all the slack is ,So my question is What can i do to get it tighter , Is the fork wore out ,Or does the fork have brass like busing.or what , i have a chiltons manual and it dont show anything about it , So can someone help out please .

Update:

I would think it might be the shift fork , But it does it in all the gears , Can some one tell me haw the shifter plate works ,Its to small to pull the assy out with tthe shift forks attachehed to it so how how do the shift forks move around when the shift cables move the levers on the shift plate ,And can i pull the shift plate top off with out parts falling down in the trans to look down in side the trans and try to see what is worn out ,or is there a web sight i can go to to see the break down of the shift top plate of the trans ,I have a chiltons repair manual and it dont show or tell me anything about it thanks mark.
