Problem with my cat peeing in the house?
My kitten has recently been peeing in the house, usually on towels. We have no idea why, as he's always used the litter box. However the house smells like pee and my dad is threatening to get rid of the cat if something is not done. What should we do?

I have a cat who is similar. Your kitten is deliberately seeking out certain places to pee, which gives me several theories. Some cats (such as my own) are very picky about how clean their litter boxes are. If you don't clean the lumps out every day and fully change the litter every other week, they will find substitute areas to go. Also, if you put their food and water near their litter box, they may decide to go to the bathroom elsewhere. Another thing that will help is to have two litter boxes in separate areas of the house. Also, while trying to pinpoint the reason for his shunning of the litter box, you want to put your towel baskets in an area where the cat can't access them. Then he'll have no choice but to use his litter box(es). Eventually you'll be able to put the baskets back and he won't bother with them anymore.
Bottom line: the cleaner the box, the happier the cat will be, especially if they're particularly picky.
Hope this helps!
