It depends upon the dog. Some puppies can turn out to be obsessive about the laser pointer to the factor the place they suppose of nothing else and will always search for the pointer and be unable to calm down. In case your dog starts showing any sign of obsession, then it is time to % the laser pointer away for just right. I've had a cat that grew to be laser pointer obsessed and it quite wasn't excellent for him or first-rate to look at. One approach to scale down the obsession threat it to begin and discontinue the laser pointer from the identical spot at any time when. This may increasingly make it less difficult for the canine to comprehend that the pointer is gone when you put it away. Also, depending on what canine breed you've got, the risk might be larger or lower. Excessive lively dogs and sight hounds usually tend to improve an unhealthy obsession with the laser pointer. I'm no longer keen on laser pointers after the episode with my cat and there are so many different more positive methods to play with a canine, so that's what I do with mine.

A very low power red, blue or green laser pointer would be perfect as a pet toy.
I have bought a 1mW green laser pointer at http://www.laserto.com/
My dog seems quite sensitive to the green laser light. It is a very funny toy to play.

These are such a bad invention.
These laser pointers can bring on a really bad reaction called "shadow chasing"... try googling that and see.
If you've ever seen a dog that is a bad shadow chaser then you'd put the thing away and never use it. We've had a couple of dogs that were unrehomeable because of it. They will 'attack' any piece of light such as from sunlight coming through the windows, and they will tear a carpet / wall to pieces trying to get it.
Please don't encourage this or you could very well regret it.

Many dogs love laser pointers. In fact they love them so much that they end up with canine OCD. Obsessive behavior is not cute; it is psychologically and neurologically harmful. Please use it with the cats when the dog is not around.
