Need help with video card terms?
I'm looking for a new computer but I'm not sure what a lot of stuff means when looking at specs, specifically the video card or graphics terms. For example I don't know if I want NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670M or how good it is. What are some general graphics terms and what tells me how good it is?

in the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670M. NVIDIA: The company that makes the boards and the Graphics Chip. GeForce: Line of GPUs. They also have Tesla's, for supercomputers, and Quadro' s for workstations. GTX 670M: The type of card. NVIDIA uses the first diget for the generation, and the other 2 numbers for the release in that generation. the GTX 670M is the 7th release in the 6th generation. And the M stands for mobile. In this case, mobile means for a laptop. This is a pretty good card.

Most of London's answers is right, but the two numbers following the generation number are not "release" numbers. For an example, we'll use the GTX660.
The GTX means it's a performance card. GTS is the middle class card, and GT are the lower models.
The first 6 in 660 is the generation. Yet the 6 doesn't mean 6th generation, as there are more than 13 generations.
The two numbers following the 6 represents the performance level of that card.
The 660 will be higher performing than the 650, even though it's in the same generation, and the 670 will be more powerful than the 660.
