Why does no one mention Miguel Cabrera's poor fielding in the Armando Gallaraga blown perfect game?

When you watch the replays, one thing is obvious: Jim Joyce made the wrong call. But if you look at it, Cabrera was halfway to 2nd base when he fielded the ball, momentum carrying him away from first base, leaving Armando to cover first. I've always firmly thought that had Cabrera been covering first and left the ball to the 2nd baseman who was in position to field the ball, there wouldn't have been a close play and one of the most focused on blown calls in baseball history wouldn't exist. Am I the only one who holds this view on the play?

I seem to be the only other person saying this. He could've stayed on 1st and Guillen would've easily had it and tossed it to 1st. But as a first basemen, you're taught that if you can get to it, then get it. Too bad that it ended that way.

Because Cabrera's fielding was fine.....and didn't cost the perfect game.....Cabrera fielded the ball, made the throw in time to the covering pitcher and the ump blew the call.....Cabrera's fielding had nothing to do with it.
