Why don't the Irish try to rejoin the United Kingdom?
They go on about reunification of Ireland, why not reunify the UK? Eire has been held back by politics for a long time now, Is it time to move slowly back?Very slowly
I know they fought for home rule, but where is that now, Brussels or the Hague, not Ireland. Why not accept what it is? The men of 100 years ago are all dead but they are screwing lives up from the grave. Think about Germany, we all get on fine now, we have to let the past go.

As an Irishman, begrudgingly I have to accept in part what you are saying, Independence is as a relative thing for the Irish as it is for the British, due to the EU and other factors. I think the way the British misruled before Independence is a factor in all of it, yet if you were to poll the Irish to see if they would rejoin a commonwealth, you might be surprised by the result.
I think the big tragedy for Ireland was that it was partitioned into illegitimate states by the English who usually seen the Irish in an Occidenalist way. They cared more about India than Ireland. Some kind of Federal Union with the UK, perhaps, better trade links etc, why not. Rejoin? I think that has long past.

Europe was a mess back then. Everyone thinks that the only places that were colonized were outside Europe but that simply isn't true. Ireland is one of those countries in Europe which were invaded and overtaken by force. There are many others.
Now the Europeans are all joining together not by force but the right way by trade and the free exchange of ideas.

Because the rest of the UK wouldn't want to be united with Ireland.
I can't believe that people think that Braveheart and William Wallace was about the Irish.

Because like myself and many thousand patriots we don't like subsidising a whole bunch of scrounges and their hangers on that are called the royal joke, after next year when Scotland get their independence the jack fleg will be no more, Wales and Ireland have never been on the uk fleg. Wales will be next for independence .God save Ireland Wales and Scotland

Maybe some day they will want to be part of the UK. I doubt that the Uk would want the Island and its debt.

Ireland has a lot of mineral resources... in the long term they'll be richer without the UK.
