Jehovah's Witnesses are neither Protestants, Fundamentalists or a sect! We are a Christian religion, We are serious Bible students. No opinions needed. :) We're a worldwide organization of over 7.5 million active members (with millions more associated with us.) We believe in the Bible in its entirety, we are Christians who follow Jesus commands & example to preach about God's Kingdom & teach about the Bible, that is why we go in a door to door ministry, which you may be familiar with. Lots of bizarre stories are told here about us, some are vicious false accusations. If those stories were true, we'd be some pretty crazy & scary people, but they are not true at all, we're not a cult or a sect that let our children die instead of getting them medical attention, we do not follow 8 men in New York, we do not blindly do whatever we're told, we are allowed to read other things besides our Watchtower publications, we DO believe in Jesus! He is the son of God Almighty Jehovah, we apply all Bible principals, are good, honest, respectful people, with a Bible based hope for the future & we happily share it with anyone who wants to hear, we don't bash other people for their beliefs, nor do we go knocking on people's doors early in the morning to insist you convert. =] I promise! If you want to know more about us please see the only official website of Jehovah's Witnesses http://www.jw.org/ & see this link specifically about our organization "About Jehovah's Witnesses" http://www.jw.org/en/jehovahs-witnesses/

Nevermind JW or Mormons; they're a sidetrack and distraction; and them being cults are revealed through the authenticity of the original Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic scriptures. Know the roots and basis of Christian faith; know for yourself, have wise counsel. These are very important times that you walk in The Light of the narrow way. I suggest; it's my opinion that you get a commentary called "Jewish New Testament Commentary" by David Stern. You may be a gentile believer, but it is maturity for you and a true parallel for you to know the Jewishness of the bible and be a friend to Jews and Jewishness. Jewishness has to do with the wellspring within you and the wine of The Spirit.

A religion that was a sect of a non Christian group.
A sect and a cult.
Cult
The Jehovah's Witnesses follow a group of men that are the "leader" if a milti-incorporated business.
These mean are called "The Anointed"
Although there are other member of the JWs that call themselves anointed they have nothing in common with the small group of men who run all aspects of the Watch Tower corporations.
Sect
In a loose sense. The religion of the Jehovah's Winesses evolved out of a much larger group by the name of International Bible Students and called Russellites. When a Man by the name of Rutherford took over at least two thirds of the Russellites left and formed other groups or sects. Many returned to the religion they left. These go by the name of Bible students Modern adherents to the Watch Tower own thier name and founding to Rutherford.
religion
After a group forms its own leadership and unique doctrinal bias, has a generational staying power, becomes widespread, and surpasses 125,000 followers it may be considered a religion.
The Watch Tower runs a religion that holds it leadership as holy. The Watch Tower teaches schadenfreude.

All 3.
They are Protestants because they aren't Catholic nor Orthodox.
They are Fundamentalists in the sense that they are very conservative in their beliefs opposed to progressive or liberal.
They are a sect of American Christianity. Some may say they are a cult.

Cult.
"No. It is not Christian." Like all non-Christian cults, the Jehovah's Witness organization distorts the essential doctrines of Christianity. It denies the deity of Christ, His physical resurrection, and salvation by grace. This alone makes it non-Christian. To support its erring doctrines, the Watchtower organization (which is the author and teacher of all official Jehovah's Witness theology), has even altered the Bible to make it agree with its changing and non-Christian teachings.

Hi Dee,
I believe they are a pseudo Christian cult, and let me explain why. First of all they have made failed prophetic statements of the end of this world's system of things. This has been verified by their own printed material. Second they have gone as far as altering the word of God by removing scriptures, adding words to scripture that are not found in original copies. They have also mistranslated certain words like worship and changed the word worship to the word obeisance in specific places while leaving the word worship in tact in other places. By doing this they have changed the meaning of what was written. By doing these things they attempted to give support to their doctrines which run in opposition to main stream Christianity. They reject main stream Christianity as pagan and make the claim Jesus is really Michael the archangel which isn't supported by scripture. Once any member questions their doctrines the person is brought before a judicial committee for redirection. If this person persist in questioning their doctrines they are disfellowshipped as an apostate, and a God hater. They are not protestant because they protest all religions not just the Catholic Church. They are not fundamentalist because they have altered scripture in order to support their own doctrines. They are not a sect of the Christian church because they feel they alone have the truth, so they condemn all other Christian churches, so by their own admission they are "the only true Christians" and are not to be compared to any other Christian church, so what are they really? As an EX-JW myself, I can only say they are a pseudo Christian cult who appear to be Christian "like" on the surface. Once you look into their doctrines you realize they are unlike most Christian churches. The reason I use the word cult is due to the definition of the word which means they have a unique doctrine and or rituals. They really have unique doctrines like their 1914 belief that Jesus started his rule in heaven. They also believe that Jehovah is using them specifically to spread the Gospel and claim to be "God's only true spokes-people in these end times" and also stated they were chosen by God himself. This is why the word cult by definition is the only proper word to use. Please look up the definition of the word cult and it describes them to a tee. They also feel that the true Gospel message was lost and needed to be restored which puts them into the "Restorationist" camp. So I think they could be called a Restorationist millennial cult for lack of a better categorical term.
