Is attendance at an NHL game calculated by tickets sold ?
or do they do an actual count, by other means (ie. when they scan your ticket to enter the Arena)

Source(s): In a hockey game of the Dallas Stars (on the same day a game was postponed due to snowstorm) the official attendance was at about 12,000 though there were barely more than 2,000 in the arena. - 8 years ago
There have games at Jobing where the announced attendance wasn't close to actual attendance, both way over and under. So I would bet it is based on tickets sold
