I'm only a few months within the "age of consent"?

Are charges as harsh? There's also a law in my state that makes charges minimal for couples within 4 years of an age difference. I'm dating someone 3 years older than me .We've been seeing each other for 1.5 years & has been trying to split us up ever since. My parents are fine with it. His mother extremely pissed about it and is bound & determined to try and prove we had sex & wants to call the cops on him (yes, his own mother). At his age, I don't even think he's required to have a legal guardian. How far could she get? I personally think she's running in circles but i'm still a bit concerned

So, you're about 17 and he's over 20, right? But when you started dating, you were about 15 1/2 and he was over 18, which is frankly a bit creepy.

I don't think his parents could really do anything--nobody's going to want to pursue a statutory rape charge when you obviously consented--but obviously his parents have never been thrilled with this relationship. Why is that?

Do you live in Texas or Oklahoma? These laws are selective of state. In the state of Texas you can date a minor as long as it is within three years. My girlfriend is three years and 23 days younger than me. Now I have an illegal relationship by just 23 days and if given the right judge and the right set of people sueing, I could be put in jail. But at the same time most judges will dismiss it because of how close she is to the age of consent. As is what happened when her legal guardian took me to court. The judge laughed at him.

Depends entirely on the laws of your unknown State, and you didn't tell us where you are.

In any State, though, ANYONE who has reason to believe that a crime has been committed can make a police report. It doesn't have to be your parents or his.

You are legal now, and the Romeo and Juliet law is in effect. I wouldn't worry about it. The only person who can get him in trouble is you...and that would be extremely mean
