What is the correct definition of the word 'God'?

.

Ask most Christians to define the word "God" and most will tell you that it is the name of the Almighty Creator of the Heavens and the Earth. Some would also reply to you that this title also refers to Jesus, the one they refer to as the son of God. Some Christians would say that both the Almighty Father Creator, and the Son of the Father (Jesus) are both God. Ask a Muslim or most any other man or woman of a different religion from Christianity, and they will reply in a similar manner, except that most would exclude Jesus from the title of God.

    According to Merriam-Webster:

capitalized : the supreme or ultimate reality: as

a : the Being perfect in power, wisdom, and goodness who is worshipped as creator and ruler of the universe

b Christian Science : the incorporeal divine Principle ruling over all as eternal Spirit : infinite Mind

    2

: a being or object believed to have more than natural attributes and powers and to require human worship; specifically : one controlling a particular aspect or part of reality

    3

: a person or thing of supreme value

    4

    : a powerful ruler

Christians like to change the meanings of things to fit what they want it to fit, but in my opinion the dictionary is what gets to define meanings.

    Anything that is worshiped can be termed a god, inasmuch as the worshiper attributes to it might greater than his own and venerates it. A person can even let his belly be a god. (Ro 16:18; Php 3:18, 19) The Bible makes mention of many gods (Ps 86:8; 1Co 8:5, 6), but it shows that the gods of the nations are valueless gods.—Ps 96:5;

"God" is not a name but a title.

Almighty God's name is Jehovah. He is the Sovereign ruler of the universe and our Creator.(Ps83:18;Rev.4:11)

The term "god" is in reference to someone who is superior to another, it can also refer to something or someone that someone devotes their life to, or worships. The term "god" is not a name. In the scriptures "god" is used in reference to those whom the word of God came to, or those who have been given the authority by Yahweh, our one God, to represent him, such as Moses was "elohim" to Aaron and Pharaoh (Exodus 4; Exodus 7:1; John 10:34-35).

According to the World English Dictionary: The term "god" means this:

    1. a supernatural being, who is worshipped as the controller of some part of the universe or some aspect of life in the world or is the personification of some forceRelated: divine

    2. an image, idol, or symbolic representation of such a deity

    3. any person or thing to which excessive attention is given: money was his god

    4. a man who has qualities regarded as making him superior to other men
