Is this a recipe for disaster?

This seems a really huge misjudgement on his part, a huge one. not only does he seem not thought much on this, but he could well make things worse, by not giving people the choice and appearing to ignore people's rights.

A Republican lawmaker in Idaho has proposed an amendment to the state Constitution that would require all adults to be militia members in an effort to preserve their right to bear arms.

At a Idaho Senate State Affairs Committee on Wednesday, state Sen. Jim Rice (R) said that he feared that the U.S. Supreme Court would change the definition of the Second Amendment and allow the federal government to confiscate guns owned by individuals, according to The Associated Press.

But Rice argued that the federal government could never take away people’s guns if the Idaho Constitution was changed to make all adults members of the state militia as a “backstop.”

The Caldwell Republican hopes to let the voters decide on the amendment in the November 2014 election. Rice said that there was no issue that was more important to his constituents than gun rights.

Update:

Rather than think with your political affliction how about realizing that you arguing against your rights being breached and forcing something on someone is breaching their rights. It's not complicated it's seriously not, do you ignore the fact that not everyone would want to be part of this militia?

Update 2:

Honestly why do I bother, you guys only care about your own rights, but forcing them on another is perfectly fine, yes lets conscript people into your militia to save your rights!

While I support what Senator Rice is trying to accomplish, I guess I see your point. But it depends on whether, how and when, the militia would be activated is defined in the law. If it was in a case of dire state/national disaster, then pretty much everyone would be eligible for conscription anyway.

The 2nd doesn't mean that. The con is wrong. The 2nd has been well defined by constitutional scholars to represent the existing citizenry is a perpetual existing militia against threats to personal life and property. The government can regulate what type or how many, but to make it a law to fully ban violates the clear meaning of the 2nd Amendment.

Here is the text to section 8 of the Constitution regarding Militias.

It does reference a National Militia, being used for putting down insurrections (revolutions) or foreign invaders.

It does not mention "protecting us from tyranny" much less defending us from our own elected government, and you have to be truly an idiot to believe that.

    "15: To provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions;

16: To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining, the Militia, and for governing such Part of them as may be employed in the Service of the United States, reserving to the States respectively, the Appointment of the Officers, and the Authority of training the Militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress....

a rather ingenious way to circumvent attempts at denying people their second amendment rights. Presumably any person initiatied into a militia would be vetted, and the criminal and mentally ill barred from joining. And depending on the wording, the amendment probably would not even require those men to actually own guns, just to be part of the militia.

My only complaint is that it doesn't include women, who arguably have a larger need for such weapons. But all in all, I don't see a problem with this, especially since it still has to pass voter muster.

You ARE part of the militia and didn't even know it. How has it been impacting your rights?

Yeah. Learn what a militia is and about PRESENT law on the topic before you spout off.

A State law "requiring" everyone to be in the militia is NOTHING MORE than a STATEMENT that you're in the militia. Is a STATEMENT that you're in Idaho somehow violating your rights on grounds that maybe you don't want to be in Idaho?

It could be. It could also be a recipe to preserve Constitutional gun rights in case the government gets out of hand, depending upon how a person looks at it.

No...this is a recipe for disaster:

    10 potatoes

Take the potatoes, wrap them in tin foil. Place them into a microwave. Cook on high for ten minutes.
