Should I seal an oil painting before sale?

I've been painting for a while (mostly still lifes and landscapes) and all my finished oil paintings are starting to clutter up my home. I just don't have anywhere for them. A friend suggested I sell them--they're pretty simple and commercial, so I figure if I sell them for cheap I could get some buyers. But my question is, should I put a sealant on them before selling them? I know you're supposed to wait 6 months from the date of completion before you seal and that it can be a tricky process, but how necessary is it? Does it affect the longevity of the piece that much?

You don't have to wait as long if you use retouching varnish. That's what I do if I'm selling the painting for cheap. It livens up the colors and looks very good. You can get matte or gloss. Winsor and Newton makes a spray varnish which I also like.
