Why do Christians thank Jesus for things they accomplish with their own effort?

Typical meal-time prayer: "Dear Jesus, thank you for this wonderful meal"

Okay, so let me get this right: A large corporation planted the seeds and raised the crops and chickens and cleaned the meat and delivered it to your grocery store. You bought the food with your own money, you cooked the food in your own home with your own labor, you eat the food at your table in your dining room with your silverware and dishes, and yet you thank JESUS for your meal? Seriously y'all, WTF?

I suppose if you built a table from scratch, using wood, nails, and tools that you bought at a hardware store, you would end up saying "Thank you Jesus, for this wonderful table, which I bought with my own money and built with my own labor and effort and know-how."

My question: Don't you Christians ever take credit for ANYTHING you accomplish?

"Well, God made the Earth and all life, so anything you make using God's creation ultimately belongs to God. You wouldn't be able to do anything without God!" is probably your response.

That's like giving an artist a canvas and paints, and then taking credit for anything he draws that is beautiful or awesome. And if he draws crap... oh well, it's his fault... he chose to draw poorly of his own free will, right? But if he draws something amazing... all the credit belongs to ME because I'm the one who gave him the paints and canvas! That's brilliant! I can't lose!

Jesus is the name of the migrant farm worker that grew the food. The least you could do is say gracias.

Why are you so proud as to not give glory to God for things? If I deserve any credit for anything, God will give it in His time or even post-mortum. He has always satisfied me with any credit I deserve in His time. HE gives us and all plants and all animals the very atmosphere with have for breath we breathe. He gave us the money via gov't for economic purposes. HE, of course, created seed & crops & chickens & gave us the ability to clean the chicken, etc. He enabled grocers to become that, hardware owners the ability to own & operate their business(& suppliers), farmers to be farmers, silverware manufacturers to make silverware. Why is this so hard for you to figure out? Why so upset? God is very long-suffering to you to; hope you don't take that for granted. You have heard the gospel haven't you? Where have you been hiding if you haven't?

They also thank God for things like a negative result on a cancer test. They have no way of knowing that there was anything ever there to fix!

The answer is, it makes them feel good and feelings are proof to them. That's the whole basis of religion so it shouldn't be surprising.

Christians are taught to be humble and thankful they have a life let alone the food on their plates so they are expected to give all credit to their 'god' even if they produced it.

    Wonderful meal

God made me with hands so that I may cook the ingredients He has essentially provided.

The crop was designed to be edible, the meat was engineered molecule by molecule by God for us to consume.

God gave me the ability to use my brain to make a living to buy these ingredients.

God placed the metal in the ground for us (He created the world for us) to mine and smelt ... the clay in the earth to create dishes ... the trees to make tables and dwelling places.

We take credit for what we have done, thanking God for what He has provided us so that we can do what we have done. We do not thank God for making the meal, nor do we thank Him for making the table. We thank Him for the ability to do all this

because if it were not for God we would not exist and it's only because of him that we live another day. so why should we not thank him for his blessings on us. we could have been born in the third world country. in poverty with no ability to work.

He gave us the power to implement our efforts. In some cases, he gave us the effort itself.

It is because of Jesus that we have the effort and ability to supply, and to give !
