Pc Internet slow, laptop Internet is fast?

Just built a pretty high spec custom pc, now I had it connected by Ethernet over power, but the download speed was 0.22 and the upload speed 0.5, and I couldn't do anything with it at all, I put a wireless dongle in, and it jumped up to 6up/down, my laptop however on wireless is 22 download and 30 upload, I am on BT infinity, how can I make my connection at least bearable? I can't hardwire to my router as I am on the other side of the house on a different level ): any help is much appreciated, the dongle I used is about 5 years old, a Netgear one

Ok, here is what to do:

You need to clean up your computer. Your laptop could have more viruses, more large items that are slowing it down, etc. I also copied this from another answer I gave, but it should work for you, too.

    First: Download Malware-bytes Anti-Malware

People hacking into your computer with malicious sites, downloads, etc, can really slow down your computer. Once downloaded, start a quick scan. If you have a lot of problems, then that is most of your problem.

Second: Download AVG and get a free trial of AVG PC tune up

Once you have this, run an AVG scan and get rid of that stuff. AVG PC Tune up will work to make your computer as fast as possible

    Third: Start Defragment/Disc Cleanup

This is the harder and longer part, and might take a couple of hours, or maybe even a day. This will really help your internet connection. To get there, go to My Computer or Computer. You will see your local drive, or C drive. Right click on it, and click properties, which should appear at the bottom of the list. A little graph will come up that tells you how much free space you have on your computer. Under it, you will see disc cleanup. Click it. After that, go to the tools tab and click Defragment Now. It will start the defragmentation.

    Final: Clean Up

After all the other steps are completed, go to Control Panel, Programs, and Uninstall a Program. There, uninstall all of the programs that are installed on your computer that you do not use, or have not used for a while. That will help with start up, etc, because your computer will have less programs to load. Google Chrome also slows down your computer if you are not using it.

    I hope I helped!

It best stands to purpose at one bar! You are too a ways away from the router plain and easy. EDIT: Than you might be undoubtedly now not even connected to your possess router. You are absolutely connected to an open router in your shut regional. Nick is also filled with crap! To many packages or viruses do not reason your signal strength to move low. If you're wired immediately to the router, you should not even have the wireless turned on. You should be utilising the LAN connection, now not the WLAN. EDIT: in case you are connected instantly TO THE ROUTER WITH A NETWORKING CABLE, YOU should not EVEN BE using wireless NETWORKING interval! YOU will have to BE using THE LAN CONNECTION. Turn THE wi-fi OFF. The signal bars are for the wi-fi connection best.
